My son who is almost 2 years old now has always been into cars and anything he can push around or pull along behind him on the floor. It keeps him amused for hours. So when this was bought for him for Christmas I was delighted. Now I have to say that I am a big fan of VTech toys but this isn't the best one I've seen.
Don't get me wrong, he loved the look of it and it's bright colours, plus it talks, plays songs and is educational too. The idea is that the shapes that come with it have to be put through the corresponding slots in the car that match those shapes. Simple, but perhaps not for this age group.
The car is largely bright yellow in colour and the front of the car has red piano key on it with a stop sign image, a yellow piano key with an amber image and a green piano key with a go sign on it. There is a blue dog inside driving the vehicle. To turn on the sounds on the car you have to press the button on the top of the roof. You can also select whether you want the option with numbers of music. I have to admit like alot of these toys from this manufacturer it is very durable and I would imagine it would be hard to break. In fact my son has already chucked it around a bit and it's still in one piece so that's encouraging. On the back of the car there is a door like a boot that you cna pull down and get all the shapes out of the inside. He also loves the string so he can pull it around and push it if he wishes.
When he/she turns it on the car will play music immediately and then on the music mode if you press any of the piano keys then a musical note is played. If you have the number setting on then push the piano keys once again, but this time they tell you with a colour instead of a note. It is a very educational toy in regards to the car asking questions too like where is the red key? etc. In regards to the shapes when you put them in the corresponding slots something is activated that tells you the name of that particular shape.
So that's all the good things about it which I suppose there are a fair few. The main problem i had with this toy is the age range it's supposed to be for. My son gets very frustrated putting the shapes through the slots as it's not very easy and you need a steady hand even as an adult. Therefore, despite all the lights and everything else if he sits down with he just gets annoyed with it and throws it about. Thankfully it's durable as said!
So, summing up there a few plus points to this car but the main function of it which is the shapes and getting them into the slots is in my opinion just too difficult for a child of 1 or 2 years old as I've found. I would say there are cheaper alternatives out there on the market too that are more simple.
When you are buying toys for young children I think it is surprising that lots of the toys are quite similar but in different styles. The shape sorter is a great example of this, a toy that has been around forever. The concept stays the same but the style and look can change. When my first son was born my mother-in-law asked if we'd like a shape sorter that she'd saved from when my 43 year old brother-in-law was a baby. I could see her point that it was the same kind of toy but I politely declined the offer.
The VTech Sort n Go Car is one of quite a few shape sorter we've had in our house and I don't think it's any better or any worse than any other we have. I love toys from VTech and I think they make great educational toys so this is probably why we bought it in the first place.
As you can see in the picture above the Sort n Go Car is shaped like a VW Beatle. It comes with 5 shapes; circle, square, triangle, star and heart. Each shape fits through one of the car windows. Each shape also has a number on, 1 to 5.
There are two buttons on the car. One is a volume button and the other gives you the option of either hearing music when you put the shape in the window or hearing what the shape is. So if you put the triangle shape in the car it will say triangle. I think hearing the shape is much better than listening to the music. Kids toys are just so noisey.
Another feature of the car is that it is a pullalong. There is a piece of string to do this and when pulled the lights on the car flash and melodies play.
This toy is suitable from 12 months and is an ideal baby toy. It doesn't really do much but is great for learning baby hand eye co-ordination. The music makes it fun and all babies like toys they can pull around with them.
Overall I think this is another good toy from VTech. A classic shape sorter in the form of a bright yellow car. Great for babies.
The VTech shape sorter is bright yellow so immediately attracts attention and has a mixture of coloured shapes to fir through the various shapes in what would be the windows.
I was given this car shape sorter for my son by a friend as a shape sorter it isn't the best I have tried. The coloured shapes which he likes and do play music if you get it through the right hole but the problem with it is that unless you push the shapes through at the back first then there isn't room in the car for the shapes. It is also one of those toys that activates off with the slightest knock so when you are trying to creep around you are guaranteed to kick it.
On the positive side it is multi function as my son both pulls it around the floor with the string and pushes it around the lounge floor which also makes it play tunes and flashes the lights. It is very hard wearing as it lives on the windowsill and every time my son wants to play with it he just pulls it on the floor and there is no damage to date.
As a car it is entertaining but it wouldn't be my choice of shape sorter or vehicle.
What a great toy, ideal for girls and boys to learn about shapes, and how they fit into different sections. This car is very cute in the style of a VW Beetle. HAs 2 volume settings and 2 modes of play, 1 is shapes and the other is nursery songs. Nice bright yellow colour, and shapes are also nice bright colours, Red, Yello, Blue, Green and Purple. My daughter loves this toy and likes the fact that it has a little string on the front to which she can pull it along, when it is pulled along it makes different car sounds. Its a nice size not too big but not too small for little hands. Talks in a friendly voice. Includes 5 melodies and flashing lights. Easy too keep clean with just a quick wipe with a damp cloth or sponge. Has a little boot flap at the rear of the car which opens and closes for ease of getting the shapes out. Great toy for 12 months plus
The VTECH Little Smart Sort n Go Car
Its a Pull along electronic shape sorter which talks with a friendly voice and teaches shape names as each shape is inserted and plays a happy melody too. This toy develops co-ordination and motor skills.
Age: 12 months plus
The car shape is like a beetle nice bright Yellow in colour, with Red and Black wheels and Red head lights which flash Red. Front number plate saying VTECH in Yellow, back number plate in Yellow with a Blue out line with 1-2-3 written in Blue.
On each side on the car you have a Blue switch one being the volume switch loud/soft volume control and the other being the select switch Talking mode/Music mode.
On the roof of the car you have VTECH written in Blue on a White back ground with an out line of Blue, then is stats Little Smart Sort n Go Car written in Red with the words Sort n Go Car outlined in Black. Then you have a cartoon type drawing of the car with the shapes in tow. Inside the car is Yellow with a slated dip so when you place in the shapes they will slide to the back of the car.
The car also comes with a pull cord so you can pull your car along with you. The car talks and sings and to top that off it has flashing head lights.
It has five windows one at the front and two either side of the car.
The windows are the shape holes, being White windows as the back ground in the middle are the shape holes. In which there are five shape holes being, a Star, a Triangle, a Circle, a Heart and a Square. Just behind the shape holes there is a little White button behind each shape which activates once a shape has touched it.
The 5 Shape pieces which are:
Once you slide the switch to talking position (smiley face) you will see the head lights flashing, and you will be able to hear the sound effects of a car starting.
Insert a shape piece into the correct shape hole, where you will hear a voice telling you which shape that one was and then a little noise for instance when you place the Star shape in to the hole you hear a voice saying Star followed by Beep Beep this will happen for each shape.
Once you have inserted all shapes you can then or before open the back door by pulling towards you and down to retrieve the shapes, but be warned as soon as the back door is opened the shapes will fall out them selves.
When pulling the car along using the cord, the head lights will continue flashing while making car sounds.
Music Mode: -
Move the activity switch to the music position (music symbol) you will then hear a tune and the head lights will be flashing.
Insert a shape piece into the correct shape hole, where you will hear a different tune for each shape, while head lights flash.
You can wait till the song has played before inserting another shape, or just insert straight after one another will change the song each time.
When pulling the car along using the cord, the head lights will continue flashing while playing a tune.
There are 5 melodies:
Here we go Looby Loo
Where is my little Dog Gone?
Sailing, Sailing over the Bounding Main
If the car has had no use over the last few minutes then it will automatically shut off.
The VTECH Little Smart Sort n Go Car Requires 2xAA batteries.
The car is quite heavy roughly 15cm high and 20cm in length, and 14cm wide.
Its fun colour full and lasts for years, Jordons had hes since he was a baby with no dents and works perfect. This toy is very strong it has been thrown down stairs and bashed about, and still as good as new. You have hours of fun playing with this, whether sitting using the shape sorter, or playing with it as a car, or even pulling it around with you. Ive found this to be great for hand and eye co-ordination.
What would have been good to add is after the car tells you the shape you have inserted telling you the colour as well.
For example, insert the Star shape, voice says Star and Yellow or Yellow Star.
Instead of just teaching the shapes it could also teach you colours. To me that isnt a down side, but was an idea in which to improve the car. At the end of the day Jordon loved it, and still loves to play with it, even though he can not hear the songs he still knows hes done something for the lights to flash.
The car is priced around £12.99, from all good toy shops
I have just visited VTECH web site, they are not showing this car but they have the same in Blue with a recommended retail price of $24.99

Hiya I bought this toy about 3 years ago now and it is still doing strong. I bought this toy for my son as I needed something bright, cheerful, durable and basically my son proof as he is special needs and used to throw a lot of his toys. Now my son is now 5yrs and this toy has been used many times, he loved the bright yellow coloured car with 5 assorted shapes which you had to post into the appropriate shaped holes as do his brothers the youngest who is just starting to play now 5 months. The VW car has a lowering tailgate in which to retrieve the shapes after they have been posted into the car and when a shape is posted the car will play a tune or tell you the name of the shape. There are 5 brightly coloured shapes that come with this car, these are also very strong. When the shape is placed into the hole of the car the car plays a tune or says the name of the shape in a english spoken voice , also the cars headlights flash on the front. This car is made by Vtech a realible name in childrens electronic toys, it can also be used as a pull along toy, making car noises a beep of the horn as it is pulled along by your child, the string that pulls this car along is only short but does the job. I have no complaints about this car as it is great value for money, it has not only been bashed by my 1st son but my 2nd also and it is still being used today with my 3rd son who is just starting to explore and play with things. This toy has a on/off switch underneth the car and takes 4 AA battereies. I think this toy is a great educational toy as it teaches shape regognaition, colours, and motor skills and would recomend it for all youngsters. A great christmas idea
My son was brought this toy for Christmas last year and he loves it as it’s brightly coloured Yellow and he loves playing with the shapes that came with it. My son was 7 months old when he got this so a bit young as it’s for 12 months plus. This toy is basically a sort shaper and has 5 shapes, which are a heart, square, star, circle and triangle. When your child push’s a shape though they’ll hear the word of the shape that they are pushing though as inside the slot is a little white button which says the words of the shapes. It can be pulled along as well as push along and at the same time it beeps and it’s headlights flash red. The boot opens so once you have pushed all the shapes though you can get them all out that way. It has a volume control low or high, which is a very good idea I think. It has two settings of which ones talking (as above) and ones music and on the music setting on each slot where you push the shapes though if you press the little white button inside the slot it will play a nursery rhyme so altogether there are 5 nursery rhymes as there is 5 slots for all the shapes. This toy takes 2 AA batteries. It costs £12.99. I’d recommend this toy to parents as it’s a learning and fun toy.
Okay ignoring the fact that I think VW's are cute I really do like this toy. I was in the toy section browsing for something to get him now that he was coming up on a year old. I decided on this car for several reasons. The first being that he took a shine to it immediately. I had him with me at the time and he pitched a fit when I tried to put it back on the shelf. Another thing that sold me on it was that it is made by Vtech. I have been pleased by the quality and durability in this line of toys. This toy comes with five blocks of different colors & shapes. The car has the shapes cut out of the four side windows and the windshield. When your child puts the shape in the right space it will either play one of five different songs or say what the shape's name is. I was not able to pick out all the songs but one does sound like maybe Mozart or some other classical composer. I would have to brush up on my classical music to tell though. All the block pieces fit in the back by lowering the tailgate on the VW and placing them inside. My son had no problem opening this but he forgets to close it still. It also has a pull string although I feel it is too short. I suspect they did that in case younger children had this toy in their playpen or crib. It could have been dangerous were it longer. It has a little switch on the side where you can turn it to the music, the voice or off. I really like the off switch especially when the batteries are low because then it plays incessantly until the batteries finally die out. That was probably my only disappointment with this toy is that the batteries wore out quickly. Although if I look at how much my son plays with this toy I guess I can't complain too much.
What a brilliant little toy! My daughter has been given this for her first birthday, and it has been a huge hit with both her, and big sister (aged 2 ¾) ever since we unwrapped it. This is a yellow pull along car which is also a shape sorter. There are 5 shapes to insert through the “windows” of the car, and the boot opens to remove them again (this is very easy for even my one year old to open). Being V-tech, there is much more to it than simply a shape sorter. It also has 2 settings, to either make car noises, or to play nursery rhyme tunes. In the car noise/voice mode, the car will make various car noises (engine, horn etc) as the car is pulled along. The noises stop when the car stops moving. In addition, whenever a shape is correctly pushed through the appropriate window, the English voice will tell the child what the shape was. If you have it in music mode, the car plays various nursery rhyme tunes when pulled along, and plays a different tune for each different shape when pushed through the windows. Whenever the car is playing tunes or making noises, the two little red headlights on the front flash away as well! There is also a volume control button (high/low), and an off button. We probably wouldn’t have considered getting a toy like this, particularly as we already had a shape sorter, but I have to say it’s been brilliant, and easily the most popular of her birthday presents. So if your little one hasn’t got one and you need Christmas ideas, I would recommend this one.
I quite like this car it has a good look and is easy for Steven to play with it has a pull along cord and an opening boot lid to get all the pieces out, he can only do the circle and star at the moment but he is working on the other pieces, it can play either music - good selection of tunes - or say ‘circle’ etc. when the piece is correctly fitted in. it has a volume switch which I feel doesn't alter the sound drastically. It also has flashing lights on the front which my son likes. Overall a good toy, if you want a basic shape sorter with a difference get this but there is only 5 pieces compared to some I have seen with a lot more to do, I feel you are paying for the name and music! and perhaps a couple more peices to fit in would have been more fun
A pull-along, electronic shape sorter that talks with a friendly voice. Features melodies which aim to stimulate musical discovery. When pulled along, the melodies play and the lights flash.
