Vtech Switch and Go Dinos Horns the Triceratops
Disadvantages: Does not hold the imagination for long
My son was given this toy from his Godmother for Christmas, he loves cars and dinosaurs so she thought a combination of the two would go down well.
I had a look on Amazon and you can purchase it for £17 (February 2013). The Dinosaurs looks like a car to start with, my son has a blue one and they also come in green and yellow. The toy is suitable from ages 3 and upwards, my son is 2.5 and plays with it well with adult supervision. The dinosaurs come with 2 AAA demo batteries that so far have not run out. The toy is approximately 8cm X 8cm X 13cm and is a good size for small hands yet sturdy enough to stand up to a bit of rough play and also as it is transforms (manually) from a car to a triceratops it is chunky enough to not break. The dinosaur has its own little personality and has a talk button that activates a LCD screen that has phrases come over it and the dinosaur speaks. To make the car into a dinosaurs you lift up pieces of the car and it transforms into a triceratops, there are also other dinosaurs in the range, a pteradon and a a t-rex. There is also another button that makes the toy make dinosaur and car noises, these buttons do not have an off switch so once activated they run their course, this can be a bit annoying at first, but as with most children's toys you just seem to get used to the noise eventually.
My son really enjoyed playing with this toy as first, learning how to transform between car and dinosaur and pressing the buttons to make it talk and then using it as a car, but he very quickly lost interest and returned to playing with his toy dinosaurs and cars. Overall I would say that this toy is well made, has some interesting features, is sturdy and does look like fun, I think that either my son is a bit too young for it at the moment or that it is too high tech for him. I thinks the toy is a little on the expensive side and do not really recommend it to others.
