Vtech Tiny Touch Phone
Advantages: its fun!
Disadvantages: its a bit quiet (and assuming of nuclear family!!)
Our one year old had this 'phone' for Christmas. He really enjoys playing with real phones and was not impressed when his Granddad gave him his old mobile to play with, as it does not have flashing lights like mummy's real one.
My mum paid around £5.99 for this phone a few weeks before Christmas, in Home Bargains. I have also seen it is Tesco for a little under £10.00.
The packaging states that it is suitable for ages 12+ and I think children of up to the age of 3 years will get some enjoyment from this toy.
This phone reminds me of my Dad's first ever mobile phone, its a brick. Lol.
This phone is around six inches in length and about two or so inches wide. It is made of plastic in bright colours. The aerial on the top does not actually do anything. The 'screen' has little pictures which are changed by little one pressing the big blue button underneath. The pictures change from a boy and girl each on the phone to girl with colourful shapes above her to a boy counting 1,2,3.
The number keys on the phone are shaped with circles, triangles and squares coloured in green, yellow and red. On pressing each key we hear 'this is a red circle' 'yellow triangle' 'can you find a green circle' and other similar modes. There is also 'let's call mummy' and 'let's call daddy' and 'operator'
Some of the keys activate a dialling tone and others activate jingle. All the time there are coloured LED lights flashing in different sequences.
Two 'gripes' - Firstly, the audio on this is very quiet. It worked quite loudly in the box but as soon as we removed the plastic battery strip it went very quiet and there is no volume control. Secondly, the 'let's ring mummy/daddy' feature. Whilst I think this is cute and I always say to my little boy 'let's ring daddy' if we ever talk during the day, I do think that for some families this may be inappropriate as mummy or daddy may not be around.
Overall this is a cute little toy that our son gets enjoyment from . He does still like to play with my phone though!
Summary: A great little toy that just needs a volume control
