Advantages: A fun toy that provides a lot of fun

Disadvantages: Tunes that get stuck in your head

I bought this for my daughter when she was about 4 months old. She loves toys that light up and flash so after a little trial in Tesco I bought this. It costs £9.97, although at the time I got it when toys had 25% off.

The trumpet is suitable for baby's aged 6 months and over. It has a bright orange handle which has imprints of musical notes on it making it easy to grip for little hands. The on/off switch is on the front of the toy, like most Vtech toys it has two volume levels. The trumpet features three coloured buttons at the top which are labelled Do Re and Mi, these flash when the trumpet is playing and they can also be pushed by your baby. There is an elephant button on the front of the trumpet and finally a blue button where the mouthpiece would be. The speaker for the trumpet is at the front.

The toy requires 2x AAA batteries.

The trumpet is designed to help your baby learn and eventually play it like a musical instrument.

When you turn this on you are greeted with a cheerful British voice, it sounds like a young boy, the trumpet plays a jingle when switched on a then a song about playing on a trumpet. If you push the elephant button it advises you that the elephant likes to play the trumpet either loudly or softly it alternates between the two, the volume level automatically switches between the two. If you push the blue button at the back of the trumpet it plays a series of tunes and sounds. Finally the top buttons play the notes Do Re or Mi, they also state the colour this again alternates as your little one plays. The trumpet also has a motion sensor so as long as it is being waved around it will continue to play music and flash. Like other Vtech toys it also switches itself off if it is not played with for a time, great for saving the batteries.

Initially when I first bought this for my daughter she was a little younger than the recommended age and she likes to watch it flash away while mummy or daddy pushed the buttons. As my daughter got older she started to push the buttons at the top while we held it for her. It is only since she got to about 7 months she really took an interest in this. She can hold it herself confidently with one hand (it is quite light) and push the buttons herself. The top buttons are really easy to push, she gets really excited as it starts to play and her little legs move to the music. This toy gets played with at least once a day, she has it while she is in her highchair she likes to wave it around with the one hand while eating her food using the other. The batteries are still going strong. We only use this on the first volume level as it is loud on the second level. Unlike other toys we have in the house this one isn't too repetative it spaces the songs and phrases out well so my daughter doesn't get bored either. It is also robust, it has taken several trips from the highchair onto the kitchen floor, it has also been launched from the sofa onto our laminate flooring and it doesn't have a single dent or scratch.

The only downside to this toy is you find yourself humming the tunes or even worse singing to them around the house, they are quite catchy and rather annoying when all you have been humming pop goes the weasel for half of the day! Still my daughter loves this and it is a great toy for the money!

5 out of 5 from us.

Summary: Encourage your little ones musical side!
