Advantages: Great for learning

Disadvantages: Expensive

My mum was looking for something for my daughters first birthday, and she wanted to get her something that was fun but also educational - my mum likes educational toys! The Wooden Multi-Activity Cube from the Universe Of Imagination range at Toys R Us was recommended to her by one of her friends who had purchased it for their grandchild so we took a little trip over to toys r us to have a look. Typically for us we didn't check stock online so when we got there of course it was out of stock, (always happens to me, you'd think i'd learn!!) so we just ordered it online and hoped for the best!

When it finally came, just a few days before my daughters birthday, we had a quick look around the box, which was bright and had different pictures on the sides so you could see what it was like, we weren't disappointed as it looked fab.

On each side of the cube there are different activities for the child to play with:

Side One - There is a brightly coloured xylophone along with 2 little "hammers"
Side Two - A magnetic white board with magnets - there are four magnets, a green triangle, a yellow square, a red circle and a blue flower.
Side Three - There is a brightly coloured abacus, five rows, red, yellow, blue, green and orange
Side Four - On this side there is a pattern with wooden pegs in to flow round, like a little maze.
Top - On the top there is a little zoo with a zoo house, lion, giraffe, sea lion and polar bear - all of these are moveable and can travel around a little pathway. Above the animals is a twisty metal bar that beads can be moved around.
The top of the cube is fastened on with clips, but it can be taken off and turned upside down for easier storage.

This toy is brilliant to help a child's development. There is imagination with the zoo, musical with the xylophone, counting with the abacus, fine motor skills with the pegs. I think this is a really good toy however it is very heavy so a child would have difficulty in moving this around.

I don't know if i would recommend this to people as it is quite expensive at £39.99 but there are sometimes deals on, we were lucky to get it for £25 but i certainly wouldn't pay full price for it, there are cheaper options around which i think would be equally as good. Saying that my daughter has enjoyed playing with this, but now at two and a half she doesn't really seem to bother with it too much. The recommended age on this toy is 18months+ but i personally think at 12 months it isn't too young to receive and play with it.

Summary: All in all a good toy
