An easy way to add more fruit to your diet

This is a review for Asda's Kids' Garden Gang Snack Pot containing pineapple and mango. This product is part of Asda's 'Great Stuff' range which contains only food which is good for you, and is primarily aimed at children.

The snack pots can be bought individually for 58 pence, or you can buy 2 for £1 on a special offer which is due to last for the rest of the year. Also included in this offer are a pineapple, kiwi and grape snack pot, and a melon and blueberry snack pot.

The pots are made of clear plastic and are shallow and square. They have a clear polythene layer on top, which has a picture printed on it of a pineapple and mango with arms, legs and happy smiley face, which should appeal to kids. The layer is easily peeled off to allow access to the fruit.

This sort of packaging means that the pots are easy to add to children's lunchboxes or to take to work in your packed lunch. They seem reasonably sturdy to me although I don't think I would pack them loose in a large bag as the top would probably not withstand a lot of very heavy things on top of it.

Each pot contains 80 grams of fruit, 62 per cent of which is pineapple and 38 per cent of which is mango. This adds up to one of your five recommended daily portions of fruit and vegetables.

The fruit is cut up into small bite sized pieces, which is good as I find many pre prepared packets of fruit have pieces so large they have to be cut up again at least once. These pieces of fruit are a perfect size for children or adults.

The fruit is quite good quality. Occasionally I find some of the mango can be a bit hard as though it has not ripened properly, but normally this isn't the case. The pineapple is not quite as juicy and fresh-tasting as some pre packaged pineapple and tends to have more brown marks than some brands but it is much better than tinned pineapple.

These pots are easy, convenient and contain reasonable quality fruit so in general I am pleased with them. They are a nice, non-threatening way to introduce children to more exotic or unusual fruits and they are handy for adults too!
