Asda Smartprice Grapefruit Pieces in Syrup

Description: Manufacturer: Asda / Type: Fruit.

Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I am a recent convert to the supermarkets own ranges which offer us cheaper products by spending less on fancy packaging. Yes, the no frills stuff does look cheap and nasty but I have been pleasantly surprised to learn that this doesn't mean the products will be too.

These grapefruit pieces in a light syrup come in a 540g tin (there are 66 calories per 100g) which cost me £0.45. The tin looks very similar to all products in the range with a white and green label. You will need a tin opener as there is no pull off lid.

The grapefruit pieces inside are not uniformly sized like segments are, but different sizes and shapes (if you need these to look posh on a plate then you may be better buying segments instead!). They are all a decent enough size though and each one is bursting with flavour. The juice is sweet (as you would expect from a syrup!) and the grapefruit tart so they are a great combination.

These grapefruit pieces are deliciously refreshing, I like to eat them with natural yogurt as an alternative to a sweet dessert but my other half eats them ffor breakfast. Either way, they are just as good as any other grapefruit pieces as long as you don't mind that they are oddly shaped!
