The one thing I've got into in a really big way at the moment is baking. I've never really done alot of before now as I have lived with parents for the past few years and got moaned at on a regular basis for messing our tiny kitchen up. However lately I have been staying at my mates house who has a huge kitchen so I have had more room to experiment and no one to moan at my messes but her who quite simply doesn't as she loves to eat my food so knows when to keep her opinions to herself lol!
When we went on our last weekly shop I told her I needed flour and where as I was busy at looking at more economy offerings (cos to my way of thinking flour is flour though she totally disagrees with that philosophy lol) she had no hesitation in simply pulling this off the shelf. Not one to argue as I don't know much about flour I was happy enough with the purchase and least I got some!
Green and white paper bag and on the front of it I am told that it is Be-Ro Plain Flour 'For over 100 years' and that it is ideal for pastries and batters. Other information listed on the bag includes being told a bit about the flour and given a suggested recipe, the best before date of the flour is clearly stated, nutritional information is given and the size is stated (in this case it is 2kg) and contact details for Be-Ro's is given. Nice enough quality bag that is informative enough, easy to open etc.
The Flour Itself:
Well this is of course is a plain white flour. Very powdery of course and fine you can use this in anything that requires you to use a plain flour! You can make this to make pastries, certain biscuits and cakes and things.
Me I have used this to make Yorkshire puddings, pancakes and pastry and to me this is like working with a really good flour. Personally I can feel the difference using this to cheaper brands and that is actually hard to explain to you why! I suppose for a plain flour I feel this is quite thick though still powdery!
This makes excellent batter whether that to make Yorkie puds, pancakes or crepes...all of which I have made with this happily. It is a rich flour though and never heavy and when mixed with water/milk I have noticed that it really doesn't go cloggy or lumpy and it's incredibly easy to to work with.
All in all there is not much you can say about flour as it is what it is of course. Though if you are used to dealing with flour you can 'feel' the difference when working with it! An excellent product...this is and worth the money it costs!
