I brought this because I have lately got some cookbooks to try and be a bit more adventurous in the kitchen. One of the cookbooks I got was for Italian dishes and most of them needed garlic, I love it and would be no good as a vampire but my dad can't stand the smell of raw garlic and he can sniff it out it I'm crushing garlic and it proper makes him heave. This is quite funny but I can't be too sad to my personal taxi driver can I! lol
This Dorot Crushed Garlic is frozen crushed garlic and comes in a pot that has got 15 seperate little compartments in it and each compartment holds the equivalent of 1 clove of crushed garlic. You squeeze a square out and throw it straight into the pan while it's still frozen so you never get the harsh raw garlic smell that my dad hates.
As it unfreezes it will mix into the sauce of whatever you're cooking and then you can start to smell it as it's cooking. Obviously you couldn't use it in any recipe that doesn't need the garlic to be cooked for long because the square does take a bit to melt but for anything else they're brilliant. When it's cooked you can't taste any difference between this and fresh garlic and even though I haven't told anyone nobody has said it's too garlicky or not garlicky enough even though my dad must have noticed he's not out puking in the back garden whenever I'm cooking with garlic! lol
I can tell it's done good because I have used it for recipes that need 1 clove and also for recipes that need 3 cloves now and you can tell the big difference in the strength of the flavour just like with proper fresh garlic.
It saves the stink of garlic all over your hands and also saves the messy job of cleaning the garlic crusher because my mum has got a mad one that takes for ages to clean because the crusher bits don't come all the way out of the handle.
I paid £1.00 for mine and I saw in Sainsbury's that the same company does thinks like frozen herbs, basil and chilli as well all the same clever pot that you just pop the squares out of. I'm deffo going to buy some more to see if they're all as good as this brilliant garlic one and I can't see that I'll have to buy smelly fresh garlic again.
