Jif Lemon Juice
Advantages: Handy to keep in the fridge
Disadvantages: Does contain preservatives where fresh lemons do not
I try to use fresh lemons wherever possible but Jif Lemon juice is a must have in my fridge all the year round, it is so handy and will keep up to 6 months after opening, this is so useful as sometimes I get to mid week and want to make a recipe that requires lemon juice and don't have any fresh lemons in and this is where my handy little bottle of jif comes in.
You can use Jif lemon juice in anything that you would normally use a fresh lemon for even in drinks and I particularly like it as you don't have to use a lemon squeezer or have to pull out the pips from everything. The taste is great too I can't really tell the difference between fresh lemons and Jif lemon juice. The only drawback is that Jif lemon juice does have preservatives (E223) so if I do have fresh lemons in the refrigerator I would choose them over this for consumption purposes.
One of my favourite uses in the summer for Jif lemon juice is to make a homemade salad dressing, with finely chopped garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and a little salt and store it in the refrigerator, that recipe can also be used to brush over meat, chicken or fish before grilling as well. I also put the bottle on the table as a condiment when we have fish so the family can drizzle a little on themselves if I don't have any fresh lemons in stock.
Jif Lemon juice is very versatile it has limitless uses as well as being used in cooking, it makes a great cleaning product too; I soak the teaspoons in a little lemon juice overnight it will easily remove the tea and coffee stains. Also if the microwave smells especially after cooking fish in it, a little diluted lemon juice put in a cup and placed in the microwave for 90 seconds will take away the smell and leave the microwave smelling fresh again. For cleaning purposes I would choose Jif Lemon juice over fresh lemons it will do the same job, work out cheaper and the E numbers do not matter.
You can buy Jif lemon juice in most supermarkets current price around 72p for a 250ml bottle. You can also buy Jif lemon juice in a delightful little plastic lemon shaped container which you squeeze but this works out more expensive at around 59p per 55ml and contains the same preservatives (E223.) Jif lemon juice must be refrigerated after opening.
Summary: Great to keep in stock
