A nice little bit of dried fruit

      Whitworths Pineapple....

I am a big fan of buying all the Whitworths products as they are of a good quality and perfect for little pickers wanting to stay out of big knickers! I also find that Jack loves to eat them too and I much prefer giving him a small bag of these pineapple pieces rather than a bag of sweets or chocolate.

I have only seen them available in the smaller 35gram packets for 39pence but after looking on the Whitworths website, they are available in a larger 200 gram pack too. They are often on a buy 4 for £1 offer and I will always take advantage of this when it comes up. I have previously bought them in both Morrison's and Tesco's so they must be easy to get hold of for most people.
The packaging is okay and a rather classic design which means it is appealing to both adults and children and I don't feel silly taking a packet into work as I do with some of the more child orientated snacks. It states that Whitworths have been "At the heart of great food since 1886" and that they are of "Premium Quality" so you know what you are getting is of a trusted high standard. The only thing I would say on the packaging is that they are not the easiest things to open and Jack can never open a bag himself. Instead of being pulled apart at the top like a bag of crisps they have to be torn downwards and either makes a small hole in the corner or tearing down the entire right hand side of the bag.

The pineapple slices are around the size of a 10 pence piece and a light yellow in colour with a sugary look to them. On opening the bag you get a very sweet and pineapple aroma which is both delicious and tempting all in one. The taste of the pineapple is rather sweet and the texture is hard at first but after a few chews they seem to melt slightly in the mouth. Of course they taste just as you would expect of a pineapple but quite a bit sweeter. This is probably because they have added sugar and pineapple juice making them seem juicer than other dried pineapple bits I have eaten.

On the whole they are not greatly healthy and should be treated like having a bag of sweets really. Per packet they have 125 calories 29.9grams of sugar but only a trace of fat. It doesn't really state how much of this sugar content comes from the pineapple itself and how much is added but I would say that the amount of sugar really is on the high side and why I would only ever eat them as a treat on in baking.
Overall I find these Whitworths pineapples a nice treat from time to time. Jack likes them and so do I. They are of a reasonable price and easy to get hold of. I think I will give them 3 out of 5 stars and really the minus marks are just because they are overly high in sugar.

I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.

Many thanks for taking the time to read.
