Advantages: Deliciously smooth and soft yummy figs

Disadvantages: None

So far this year, I've been into figs in a big way - the quality of the figs seem to vary depending on the 'manufacturer', the big fig wigs seem to be Iran, Turkey and Greece and so far the one I've been the most impressed with have been from the Turkish company "Yavuz", where as most brands tend to opt for a plastic wrapper, this one actually encase their figs in what looks like the plastic CD case that houses empty CD-R's.

Initially the packaging seems over the top and unecological but it certainly makes a difference to the freshness, for a dried fruit transported across Europe, it seemed extremely fresh. Inside the casing, was a tightly packed wheel of figs that were soft and smooth, usually figs have these little hard knobby bits on that can always be a worry to your teeth when eating them too quickly, the figs from Yavuz seemed to be free of them.

Whilst most people are unlikely to be checking out the importers and manufacturers of their figs, unless you live in warmer climes where local produce is good, it's well worth looking out for some of the better manufacturers as the prices tend to all be rather similar but the quality varies!! If you see the purple and green logo with the words Yavuz Incir - you know you are on to a winner!

Summary: Turkish delight
