      A fun mini game

Boules: the traditional French game of throwing metal balls toward a wooden jack - now you can play the mini version from the comfort of your own home! Made by the Worldwide Co, 'Carpet Boules' is a set of everything you need for a complete miniature boule experience... well, apart from the carpet ;) Presented in a tubular metal tin, the set contains six boules, a wooden jack (also known as a 'cochonnet'), and a measuring device to determine which player is closer to the target ball. The boules themselves are nice and weighty, constructed from metal with a chrome finish. In fact, the whole set has an air of quality about it which is quite refreshing considering the quality of most Christmas novelty gifts nowadays. Playing Carpet Boules is simple enough - firstly, player one throws the wooden jack into play, and then follows it up with his first boule, trying to get it as close to the jack as possible. Player two then throws his boule from the same spot, trying to, a) get closer to the jack than player one, or, b) knocking player one's boule further away. The game continues in this manner until both players have no boules left, the winner decided by whoever's boule is closest to the jack. As boules is traditionally a game designed for sand for gravel, the boules react differently when landing on carpet, as they roll for a while before stopping. This makes the game at times feel a bit more like the British game of Bowls, although it doesn't really detract from the general fun level. Besides, Carpet Boules are suitable for outdoor use, so for the traditionalists amongst you they will withstand sand-pit use if you would prefer to play the game in this manner. Due to the fact that the boules are quite small, and the jack is tiny, I wouldn't recommend allowing younger children to play the game - apart from the obvious choking risk, there's the potential for the heavy balls to be accidentally thrown through TV's, windows, and fishtanks - you have been warned! All in all, Carpet Boules is a well made and fun game which would make a nice novelty christmas gift, and for only £6.99, it's nice and cheap too - highly recommended
