Alliance & Leicester:
... first looked into Alliance and Leicester when I was refused for a current account with HSBC Bank. I applied online around a year and a half ago, I was contacted by E-Mail around 48 hours after applying for their premier 21 current account with a Visa card, I asked for a £400 overdraft which my old bank had given me to be matched, they agreed to this and swapped al my direct debits over on my behalf from my old bank... HSBC ... I m sure you ll know, HSBC is one of the biggest banks in the world, depending on how you measure it, so I don t need to go into how it started and stuff. I opened my first Livecash account in 2005 when there used to be branch near me; but this later closed down. I got a solo card with a picture of CDs on it, which was very handy, and my first ever debit card, it was quite cool I would say. The account didn t have the best interest rate, but I didn t mind, I didn t need it for saving, it was for spending, hence getting the solo card. When HSBC stopped doing Livecash, I got a new debit card, which is there boring grey one with a map of the world on, I m sure you ve s... Read the full review: HSBC by john0812 |

Halifax ... opened an account with Halifax many years ago, when they were a building society. They stitched me up, because they gave an account which did not qualify for shares when they demutualized. I went back to using more actively Halifax a couple of years ago, due to the fact that they opened a branch not far from where I work. I remember than 3 years, when I was considering a mortgage, they came up with a very good offer. Last year I moved my Isa to them, because they offered me more than Barclays. I also save with them, they seem to offer deals, and then move down the interest rate. As long as you know it, though, once a year or so, you need to sit with a guy with a tie ... Abbey National ... had heard bad things about Abbey, but I was tempted by their offers of high yielding ISAS and bank accounts and decided to apply for both. First of all, I found that having to deal with 2 separate departments for Saving accounts and Isa is not very user friendly, but the real problem was the ISA application. I was about to change ISA provider and I applied with Abbey 6 weeks before the expiration of the fixed rate Isa at a different bank. I chased the matter 2 weeks before the expiration date, and they could not find my application. I spent a lot of time on line and finally applied again. One week after expiration of my Isa fixed rate deal (I had been away 2 weeks on... Read the full review: Nightmare by Aprumem |
