Advantages: it could be classed as a bank ?
Disadvantages: poor customer service, assistants and mangers
* Apologize for incorrect spelling and grammer, i havent checked it and i just need to vent b4 i go 2 work.
My mum and brother have been with abbey for years so I decided to move from Halifax to abbey.
So it was just my luck that abbey was open on Saturday in camdem, so I went in with a print out of Halifax bank statement and my provisional driving licence.
So I sat down and waited for an advisory, everything was ok, so I thought.
I showed him my statement but he wouldn’t accept it because it was an online statement, but I explained that I managed my account online and I only receive online statements instead of by post so with a little discussion with the manger he agreed it was ok. Situation sorted I thought, but no that was just the start of it.
I filled out the application form and got my friend who was with me at the time to just check through it, I handed into the assistant Kial (yes he should be named and shamed) who typed the details on the computer. So see if I was on the electoral roll in which I am, I had recently just turned 18 but he told me that I wasn't on the roll and in fact I had been removed in sept 2004. WHAT THE (swear word) ? Can u be register to vote when your 16????? So I ask him if I brought in my official polling card would it make a difference. He said that we could still proceed with the application and it should be fine. So he printed out the application with all the details typed on, AND I SIGNED IT.
BIG MISTAKE. So he said he will call before 4pm. so I left blissfully unaware. So a week has passed and I receive no phone call, but the letter arrives from abbey and it the unable to offer me an account.
I don’t understand??? I have no ccj no arrears no late payments, I work fulltime and play over £1000 month in my Halifax account. I have store cards and a contract phone.
So go back to camdem abbey with my polling card on Tuesday and tell them that their must be a mistake and I am register and this might of affected my application and if I can speak 2 a manger. The cashier was really sweet and went to go and call the manger, but I he refused to come out the office and said and told the assistant to tell that "he remembers lady from Saturday and the fact that your account was declined because I could have had a low credit score." So now i'm pissed.
The cashier went and got me a leaflet and sat me down at her desk, so I tell her about the electoral roll and she says that she'll go and check for me, low and behold I am on the electoral roll, so now she offers me a basic account which can only be used in abbey ATM's and doesn’t require a credit score and identity search but I would be able to upgrade in 3 to 6 months. So I’m thinking great at least the situation is sorting it self out, so went to work.
So still curious to see why my account is declined register with experian to check what’s wrong. The idiot Kial has put on the wrong pervious address and its now on my credit file not only that the friendly cashier has done 2 full blown credit search for checking if i’m only electoral roll and the new account ive opened, instead of identity .
So i’m pissed and I close the account and I don’t wont to step foot in their again.
So i’m left with 3 credits searches, the wrong pervious address, no basic account in 1 week and my experian credit score is under 300. GREAT (incase u can’t tell I’m being sarcastic).
this has happened 6 weeks ago ive been to the bank 6 times I have and fortunately for kial he only work Saturdays so I have only spoken to him twice, then he week on a 2 week holiday. I spent hours trying to contact the abbey camdem but now have called the complaints, which they've told me they would try and deal with it within 5 days,
Day 6 I have called them and been told the have passed into the area manger but have not received a response and should call back tomorrow.
Summary: Abbey in Camdem

- 06/06/06 being a previous employee of Abbey (insurance), I can happily confirm that they exist solely to make their customers' lives hell. What you should do is send all details to their head office as a complaint. If you don't get a satisfactory answer within 8 weeks, or you are not happy with their final answer, the go to the OFT (www.oft.gov.uk) and supply as much info as humanly possible (names, documents, dates etc). This has the added advantage in that it costs the bank over £300, regardless of what the OFT says. They will get back to you with a decision. It sounds a little bit like they've made a small mistake here and there. |
