Advantages: Very polite Branch personnel

Disadvantages: Polite Branch personnel who do not have the authority to resolve issues

On Saturday I had my card declined at Domino Pizza. I thought that my wages were late going into the bank and maybe whatever funds I had in there had been swallowed up by direct debits etc pre-wages going in. So on Sunday I went to a cash point that gives out mini statements only to find that somehow over £950 had beed sent off to Capital One and over £1250 had been sent off to the Halifax. Neither of these transactions were authorised by me. I immediately called my Abbey Branch who notified Card Services. My husband is working away and therefore I have no means of obtaining any funds. My son aged 14 and myself have been without money since Friday, today is Tuesday. I have no petrol, hardly any food in the house as I shop online each Sunday and now have no funds or a valid card to do so (Abbey have cancelled my Debit Card). I asked the branch to assist me while Abbey are investigating. They have refused to do so as last year they assisted other customers and lost a great deal of money. It was my birthday on Monday, I sat at home with my son eating the remnants of the freezer food and I felt really upset. Today I contacted Customer Services and explained my plight and the fact that I had no money for petrol and could not get to work today. They said that I just had to wait while Abbey resolve it and that the worst case senerio it could take between 2 and 4 weeks !!!! I rang the Banking Ombudsman who has drafted a letter to Abbey that will take aboout 3 to 5 days to reach the right Abbey personnel. Even then, the Ombudsman has to give Abbey at least 8 weeks to resolve the issue. What can I do? I only asked Abbey for about £150 for food and petrol but they will not give it to me in case I am falsely claiming that I have ben defrauded. I cannot pay my mortgage or any other bills and I feel totally at a loss what to do. I cannot tell my husband as he would worry himself sick and come home to give me some money (he banks with a different bank). This would jeopodise his position as he is employed in the very shakey construction industry and already awaiting to see if he will be laid off. I think that we would be better off on the dole, at least nobody could steal our Giro. Instead we both work hard and our son misses out on having parents around. If we were on the dole he would have us all day every day. I know I am going off on a tangent but I feel so upset and angry about the state of Britain on the whole. I feel that hard working and law abiding individuals get the rough end of everything.

Summary: I just want my money back, for the past 18 months I have had too many problems with Abbey

Summary: I have had so many problems with Abbey over past 18 months I want my money back so I can go elsewher

Practical advice... can you not tell your husband and have him transfer money to you (either to your bank or to a credit transfer agency)?

This doesn't sound as though it's really Abbey's fault. There's been fraud on your account and Abbey have had to stop your card.
