'Shabby National'-personal bank accounts (Abbey National)

The term 'Shabby National' is wholey appropriate. Being both an Abbey customer myself and having lodged a number of claims for unfair charges i have also recently had to unfortunatley act on behalf of my recently widowed mother and i found their customer service abismal/appailing/misleading/unhelpful... i could go on!!

Having been sent a request to close down the account and transfer the balance they catagorically denied this had happened even though we had copies of the requests made from the new bank. When i mentioned the name 'abbey' to the new bank they immediately pointed out that Abbey are notoriously unreliable at closing down clients accounts and transferring balances and will do anything to delay the procedure (up to 5 requests have been made on some occassions!!).

I feel its about time some independant body reviewed their level of customer service.

I've only ticked 1 star as i had to tick something but in reality wouldn't like to give them any stars!!

Summary: Don't bank with Abbey...get out as soon as possible...
