Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: call centres, unhelpful staff
Abbey provides many facilities for you to help manage your money including: home loans, mortgages, current accounts, savings accounts.
I have been banking with Abbey since i was 11 years old (first opened a Saver account).
I feel i must write this review to warn others of the dangers and problems i have had when dealing with Abbey, which seem to have escalated since Abbey merges with Santander.
Last summer (June) i had two current accounts with abbey, one was my main account which my wages go put into, the other just an emergency account. To help organise my finances i decided to shut the unused account. I had to go in branch to do so, waited 55 minutes for my appointment as Abbey always seem understaffed.
I cancelled my account.
Two weeks later, i went to withdraw money from my account that i use and the machine swallowed my card!! someone had cancelled my WRONG account, including all my wages that had just been put in!
All my bills bounced, Abbey were so unhelpful, i had to wait 3 months for it to be settled and to get my money back.
Abbey have call centres in India, to which the majority are helpful, but sometimes the time delay and language barriers can cause major problems.
Abbey have branches nationwide, that are understaffed, all have differing opening hours (?!) and are hard to spot on the high street since their re-brand.
If your sensible with your money, dont bank with Abbey.
Summary: try lloyds instead
