A month ago myself and my business partner applied for a business account for our new business, the representative in the branch went through all our details took our id and told us that the account would take two weeks to set up.
We left the branch with nothing apart from the knowledge that our account was "being processed" but thought we had made a good step forward on the way to setting up our new business.
Two weeks later we had heard nothing so we called to see how the application was progressing; the customer service advisor promised us a call back from the person dealing with our account application.
After three days no phone call had been received so we called again, the same response someone will call you back. By now our patience was wearing thin so we called several times and again no answers we where fobbed off with someone will call you back.
Well again nothing happened.
Now three weeks had passed by and nothing from Abbey!
Finally we had a call on the Thursday of week three and where told our application was going through. Then just a day later, we had a big envelope arrive.
Success at last, well so we thought...
No, the envelope was an application form exactly the same as we had already filled in at our local branch with a representative. I called Abbey only to be told I would have to call back Monday to speak to the person dealing with our application.
It's now Monday morning at 9am exactly four weeks since we walked into our local branch of Abbey. I called and spoke to the person who was dealing with our application they said the form we filled in at the branch was wrong even though it was exactly the same as we had been sent from them and we had completed it with an advisor from their local branch.
I was told that we would have to go through the application process from scratch and that there was nothing else they could do.
We had now wasted four weeks with only a week to go before our business launch.
Needless to say I told them no way I would waste any further time with them, if they can't get an application right after four weeks I would hate to have them running my day to day business transactions.
So my advice to anyone thinking of opening an account with Abbey?
AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS
Its just not worth the hassle of being messed around for absolutely nothing in return not even an apology.
