Last year, I was due to go on holiday and went to my bank to pay in a cheque I had received from an insurance company. As there were long queue's at the counter i decided to use the automated machine for paying cheques in. (The one with the envelopes). I waited two weeks and the cheque still hadn't cleared, so I went into my branch who told me I hadn't paid any cheques in. So I then waved the receipt under the stroppy managers nose and was told that they would look into it. Another week later, and four days before I was due to go on holiday still no money!. I then had them get an engineer to look at the machine, which took some persuading!. Low and behold their machine had chewed up my cheque and it was stuck inside the machine!. As a result of this I had to cancel my holiday as I had no cash to go with, the bank would not do anything about it, and it took another ten days to get the cheque re-issued from the insurance company. I have now changed banks, and am taking them to court. The morale to this story is don't pay your money in via these machines!!!

paule23 - 18/06/01 Blimey, what bad luck. I've never had a problem paying in at cash machines and I'll continue to do so, after all mistakes can happen anywhere, and I've robably got more chance of a machine getting it right than a human!
Still, Abbey National could have be a bit more understanding, I hope the court case goes well and you get to teach them a lesson in customer service! |
