Advantages: free banking

Disadvantages: no help in branch, useless bank card, everything done through the phone

Free business banking with the Abbey - expect a second class service. It's a good job they don't charge. Accounts issued with an Electron card that cannot be used anywhere. Tried to get a normal switch card, after 4 weeks received a card with my name spelt incorrectly. They they have 'run out' of cards and cannot print more for another 4 weeks! Meanwhile i am trying to run a business without actually being able to pay for any goods. Have complained and am still waiting for a relpy after 3 weeks.

Also business banking run completely separate from the normal branch. No staff in branch to help, you are just directed to the phone in the corner. Cannot pay money at the counter, has to be sent to the head office. Cheques take about 5 or 6 days to clear.

Internet service is OK, but some dodgy security. You have to remember your secret question as well as the answer!

It might as well be a separate service under a different name as it is run so differently than our current account and mortgage which we also have with them.

Well, at least it is 'free banking' AND some interest. If you really want to be treated like dog-dirt, take out a business account with NatWest ....

More detail about what the account offers, how you apply etc would be nice!

It seems you have a choice with Business Banking. Pay through the nose for a counter service at Nat West, Barclays, Lloyds, RBS or HSBC or use the free accounts from A&L, Abbey or Halifax but without the counter.

I'd wait an extra day or two for my cheques to clear to save on bank charges!
