Advantages: few and far between
Disadvantages: lots
Abbey National is a bit old fashioned. They made a big thing of wanting to be a bank and they often have trouble acting as a serious financial institution. They use bank books - now who needs bank books these days. They are so old fashioned it is unreal. The scope for fraud and theft is so large with the use of these things it is unreal. The have almost no cash in the bank. We once needed to withdraw £1000, not a massive sum by banking standards. My wife knows what they are like so she phoned them up before and arranged it 3 days before. So when we went in there I ended up getting most of it in £10 and £5 notes and then I had to have £20 in pound coins! We had given them 3 days notice so I assumed they were going to give us £50 notes. Their cash points are full banking experiences - they want people to use these and not to use the branch. Well thats not very nice for a start. Plus most of the operations are so confusing it can be a bit of nightmare to try and peform anything complicated using a cash point. For a 'bank' banking experience go to a real bank. But for customer service go to Virgin one. Ask yourself how much you really need to use a branch.
