Advantages: ?
Disadvantages: guess
I have been an Abbey National customer for 7 years and up until last year I didn't really have any problems. But I only had a savings account so didn't really use any of their other services. However last year i decided to open up a current account with them as I had got a second job and wanted my wages paid into a seperate account. What a mistake this was. I realise that getting married and moving house in the same week may be a little confusing! But all they had to do was change my account details. I took in all of the relevant information they would need but was told that my name could not be changed as there was a problem with their computer. This problem obviously didn't exist minutes before when they changed my address details. The staff were very rude when I explained that my employers would be putting money into an account in my married name and told me that as long as the account number was the same it would make no difference. At the end of my first month I went to take some money out of my account and there was nothing in it.I do not have the option of telephoning my local branch and have to ring banking services which is very annoying, expecially when you have to repeat all of the details to every person who they pass you on to. I was finally told that they had found the money and it had been sent to a different department because I had given my employers the wrong details. ie. my name was wrong. I was given a reference number and told to go to my local branch and withdraw money over the counter. This I did. Only to be told that they couldn't accept my ID as it had a different name on it. Obviously I had got married.I began my new job in November and my name was finally changed over in May. This was the first time my wages went into bank properly and I did not have to travel into the town centre to collect them. I have sent 4 letters of complaint and have yet to recieve a reply. Needless to say I closed the account.
