Hi all, You have to forgive me if i come across really angry and rambling on about Abbey's unbelievably horrific service, but you need to hear the whole story for you to understand this. I cannot put on to words how angry i am with Abbey, and the insult to their customers, the carelessness, rudeness and the lying. I have ... Read the complete review

Had some fraud on my account (over the phone - the telephone banking security is very poor). They were supposed to open a new account, transfer everthing over and close the old account, but it took over 12 weeks, tens of phone calls and visits to branch to sort it out. I didn't have normal access to my money for that entire time.
The telephone service is appalling - I don't usually use it, but had to because of the fraud. Too many departments, no one knows what's going on or who you need to talk to. They ignored my complaints until I threatened to report them to the ombudsman.
The internet banking service is also clunky and seems out-dated.
I am shutting all accounts I hold with them to move to a more secure & organised bank. I would definitely not recommend to others.

I've been battling to be treated as a human being by this disgraceful excuse for a bank since June 2009, when it came to my attention that they had 'mislaid' a £3,500 ISA I'd been stupid enough to transfer-in in April 2008. To this day (in so far as I can get any response from them at all), they maintain that they never received the transfer - ... Read the complete review

I've been an Abbey mortgage holder for the last 3 years. The mortgage is interest only, so I am obviously keen to pay off lump sums as often as possible. When I wanted to transfer some funds from Germany, I was told that this is easy, all I needed was an IBAN number, which was supplied. However when the transfered the money, it was sent back ... Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I've been a customer with Abbey for many years now. My father has been with them for years and never had any problems, so I decided to open my main account with them also. I too, for years, had no problems. Until the past few months. To make a long story ... Read the complete review

I've been an Abbey customer for over 25 years and over the last 2 years their customer service and their ability to understand what the customer is actually asking for has plummeted. The most recent example: I got married and surprisingly I wanted to change my name. 3 letters and countless ID's going back and forth and I now have 3 cards plus 3 different pin numbers - no idea what for - that are for the wrong type of account instead of just 2 debit cards. How hard can it be? I then try to call them and for each number I try I have to listen to an announcement about them changing their name and then discover through a process of elimination (trying to actually talk to someone) that they don't open on a Sunday. Bye bye Abbey thank you for nothing.

We were members of this bank for a number of years, but we decided to close our accounts due to the bank being just too busy, and it taking anywhere up to one hour to queue to speak to a person behind the cashiers desk, we were there every saturday, and with this being our only day off work we normally had lots of things to do on this day, so we ... I joined abbey last september due to my old bank fobbing me off about a debit card. Anyway i found the whole procedure of joining abbey very easy. I simply went in with proof of id etc and my account was opened and everything sent out to me in a matter of days. I got my debit card as i had wanted and my chequebook and online passwords ... It is very easy to point a finger at the incompetancies of the service that our banks provide. When I call I am initially either be directed to a machine, or a call centre abroad, where the staff can be highly unaccomodating. In order to access my account, I can be interrogated in a way to convince myself I am stealing from myself. The branches ... Read the complete review

I have opened 2 saving account with the Abbey online and I can only describe the experience as interesting. I opened both of these savings accounts simply because their interest rates were higher than other high street banks. I used the online account application service on the internet which I found to be well laid out and simple, quick and easy ... Read the complete review

A month ago myself and my business partner applied for a business account for our new business, the representative in the branch went through all our details took our id and told us that the account would take two weeks to set up. I have banked with Abbey for a few years now, and I never had any problems, sometimes maybe the language barrier with the staff in India, although they try very hard. I know that they are going through a lot of improvements now and that's why the system is sometimes down, especially the automated system. Their charges are huge compared to other ... I have been banking with abbey since i was a child and my parents set me up an account and i can honestly say that their customer service and there charges are ridiculous, i.e. i ordered some maternity pants online and they payment went through and it even showed on my mini statement so i took the rest of my money out to find that it hadn't gone ... I only opened my account 4 months ago but in that time they have already proved how incompetant they are and that the communication between departments is dire. I used the switch service to transfer my DD from another account. They made complete hash of this, ending up with direct debits going twice and taking days for the Abbey to get them ... The problem with some reviews on banks is that they reflect the branch that you deal with which whilst honest, doesn't reflect the company's ethos. My branch experience was poor- being given the wrong advice and staff not being able to work out percentages But in this case I am reporting on Abbey's customers services. I have never experienced ... Read the complete review

I would recommend this bank to anyone. I used to change banks regularly until we joined the Abbey. We have been with them now for 19 years. A record for us! I have always avoided the Abbey like the plague, but like the plague it keeps recurring unless it is stamped out once and for all. I'll start 17 years ago when I had a mortgage with the Abbey National and was moving house. I wanted to move the mortgage to the new house. "Can't be done" they said. But they said the could open a ... Read the complete review

I have been with Abbey National or Abbey as they are now called for many years, every since I setup a savings account when I was very young. I have seen a few very negative reviews but although they are not the best company to bank with I can't believe they would be the worst. I find their online banking very useful, it is rarely unavailable and ... Read the complete review
