Premium Review Abbey National: Appaling bank (244 words)
by - written on 15/05/09 (Useful, 43 readings)
Rating:

Abbey Abbey Abbey - oh how I hate you! What an appaling attitude to customer care they have: and such unconcerned, unempowered staff. Let me start at the beginning - about 20 years ago, when I was a mere 7 years old opening my very first 'Action Saver' account. I was promised a bronze certificate once I'd saved a certain amount. Did I get it ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Abbey National
by Paul - written on 16/04/09
Rating:

Over the past few years I have known three people who worked for Abbey and even they said they couldn't understand why anybody would bank with them, especially taking into consideration you've got HSBC out there, who are amazing. A friend of mine banks with Abbey and is about to close his account. Some of the stuff he tells me is unreal, like recently when they accidentally took out two mortgage repayments instead of one and wouldn't refund him immediately - he had to wait THREE DAYS! He absolutely HATES them. And it's not entirely the fault of the system - I've been into a branch a few times with my friend and most of the staff were totally incompetent. I reckon we'll see an end of Abbey within a few years.

I got myself an Abbey account as my first "real" bank account, I'd had a savings account with Lloyds since been a little kid, but when I turned 16, I needed a proper account for money to go in and out from. I went to Abbey and got an Under 19's account with them, this account was pretty much a proper bank account but without ...  Read the complete review

My first experience with Abbey was in April last year. I was looking at moving my ISA to an account with a much better interest rate than what I was currently earning. After spending time researching sites on the Internet, I found what I thought was the account for me, an Abbey Direct ISA. I visited the Abbey website, and filled out ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Abbey loses the plot on customer service (851 words)
by - written on 15/03/09 (Very useful, 185 readings)
Rating:

I am very disappointed with the Abbey, and see from other reviews on this site that other customers feel likewise. I have been an Abbey customer for about 25 years. First I just had a basic savings account, then when they changed from a building society into a bank I moved my current account to them too. I was quite loyal to Abbey as I never had ...  Read the complete review

I had a DD set up for a Personal Loan, which I have had for years, in October they set up another ending in different digits. So I cancelled the new one, as I was worried two payments would come out. by - written on 29/01/09 (Very useful, 119 readings)

Having read the previous review - I would like to add my experiences. I agree that I have had nothing but problems since taking out a fixed rate bond for my children over 2 1/2 years ago and have only just managed to get it sorted out. When I took the bond out I ended up with the trainee - who assured me that I had nothing to worry ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Traincrash customer services (962 words)

Today, The Times has published a Which? survey. Data received from 15,000 of their members detailing their opinions of the level of customer service in banks was collated. Unsurprisingly (I think) Abbey came out worst, so I've decided to share my experiences (and some of my family) with them. I'll start with my experience. ...  Read the complete review

Abbey National is part of the Santander group, which is a Spanish banking corporation i believe, with all these banks going bust recently it seems Abbey National have stayed afloat because there lending policy is a little more strict (so I am led to believe) as I have never taken out a loan from them, however there rates are very ...  Read the complete review

I have been with Abbey National for about 7 years now. I have never taken out a loan or a morgage, thank god! So I'm looking more at their charges. I have been overdrawn a lot in my account, I think around 10 times maybe? And each time I get charged £40!!! they have now taken around £400 from me! Premium Review Abbey National Flexible Plus Mortgage Shocker (266 words)
by - written on 02/11/08 (Very useful, 553 readings)
Rating:

Flexible Plus Mortgage Account holders cash grab by Abbey? Flexible Plus Morgage account holders appear to have had their properties revalued downwards to reflect Abbeys' mass revaluation of the current market value of their properties. This appears to be done on a regional basis. So all customers with a property in a particular region ...  Read the complete review

If you hold a postal Isa with Abbey bank watch out for their latest trick. My husband and myself have both had Abbey Isa's for a few years, leaving money sitting there for a rainy day. I really do not know where to begin with my tale of woe with Abbey, so hold tight and I'll begin at the beginning. August 07- I went to Bristol for the weekend, to see England V India in the cricket. Premium Review Don't get the abbey habit (224 words)
by - written on 29/09/08 (Useful, 75 readings)

Following the thread of this review section, I also feel the need for a bit of a rant about Abbey. I have been a customer of the bank since childhood and it is now as an adult that I realise what a shambles they have allowed themselves to become. I know that it's a huge organisation, that 'petty' concerns don't mean a thing to them, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Abbey National: Brilliant Customer Service with Abbey. (186 words)
by - written on 14/09/08 (Useful, 130 readings)
Rating:

I opened a Current Account with Abbey in June. I received my cheque book and debit card within 12 days. A week later, I applied for on overdraft, but I didn't hear anything. The reason I didn't hear anything is because for some reason, the letter had been lost in the post. Because of this, I thought I had an overdraft agreed, when in fact I ...  Read the complete review

Abbey have gone from bad to worse on all fronts. This is especially true since they became part of the Santander Group. I am going to start off with a worrying fact (not sure if the situation has now improved, but here goes). If you have an Abbey credit card and try to transfer the balance to a better deal, some credit card companies ...  Read the complete review
