I hate Abbey. I made a £1 (0ver) mistake with my calculations and they charged me £60 in FEES once I realised my mistake I rang them and they refused to remove the fees leaving my family with nothing to live on for 2 weeks.
I am switching banks but before I do and when I do I am going to play holey hell in there bank and make a big loud scene about there rip off fees inside there bank on a busy Saturday.
My son has a few stink bombs in a box and these will be applied at the same time. Discretely. Oh I cant wait..
Let the fun begin and let the ABBEY CRAPNAL get there just rewards.
abbey is full of sh*T

On Saturday I had my card declined at Domino Pizza. I thought that my wages were late going into the bank and maybe whatever funds I had in there had been swallowed up by direct debits etc pre-wages going in. So on Sunday I went to a cash point that gives out mini statements only to find that somehow over £950 had beed sent off to Capital One and ... Read the complete review

Try closing an account with them. I've been back and forth, waited in long queues, been promised the account was closed more than once, yet I keep getting statements with ever increasing charges for an unauthorised overdraft.

Abbey are now part of the Santander group, which is apparently the largest banking group in the world. So hopefully with a large conglomerate behind them Abbey would be a decent bank to go with, right? Abbey has numerous services that they offer at the moment and I've had the misfortune to use three of them, a current account, a credit ... Read the complete review

I have the unfortunate task of settling the affairs of a friend who passed away in December 2007. He had an account with the Abbey and I contacted the bank to let them know of the death. No response to the letter, so I called customer services. I explained who I was and the circumstances to be told "We cannot talk to you until we have ... Read the complete review

Abbey National used to be a British bank, but it has been bough by the Spanish Finance institution Banco Santander. For those who use Abbey National, the impact of the acquisition is not visible, Abbey is still doing business as usual, as before the acquisition. In the past Abbey built a reputation for being one of the most ... Read the complete review

We had a narrow escape with the Appey. Our intention was to switch from our current bank to the Abbey, this would include current accounts, online savings accounts and ISA accounts. I'm so glad they got it so wrong so early, we had chance to cancel the instruction due to their incompetence in losing our online application and taking over 2 weeks in sending applications in the post. Unfortunately the ISA transfer went ahead, getting the money back is proving very difficult. Again the requests to close the account, just like the requests to open the current account keep getting 'lost in the system'. My recommendation would be not to touch the Abbey with a bargepole. The staff are full of apologies' but this doesn't mean you will get the service every customer deserves.

It difficult with the likes of the Abbey to have your money work for you they seem to spend half their time charging you for it. I have a perfect account for about 9 years, after which time money it started getting a bit tight, within no time the charges were piling on, i thought best get a overdraft before i get into debt with charges, they ... after 5 years of keeping my account in good order I became unemployed for 6 months I was slightly overdrawn at the time but paid as per the agreement. They constantly harassed me both with court threats and with spam offering me loans. No I have put 10k in there I can't get it out. 1st they locked the account and now the machine I put the new card into to unlock my pin was retained. No explanation. Now I have to wait another 7 working days for a new card. Terrible, terrible systems. COmpletely useless. I am withdrawing all my money to put somewhere else (if they let me near it)

Abbey has to be the worse bank in the UK. I have been with them for 20 years and fiannly I am free of them. I tried to bank 25 bags of £1 coins and was told that only 5 bags per day. When I questioned this with the manager, he actually said 'we are not a bank you know'!!!. Last week I telephoned the call centre to cancel 2 direct debits. She ... Read the complete review

I have a childrens bond with abbey, it was set up when my son was two, the interest rate on this was and still is very good. In the years I have been with abbey I have never had any problems but I haven't got a bank account so I cannot comment on that side of things.] The first bond's term was up and I decided to open another bond and carry ... I was with the Abbey for bout 16 years, at first all was fine, then I got made redundant and instead of being helpful and understanding (what was I thinking they're a bank!) they heaped charges on me at regular monthly intervals, more charges being caused by charges - I spoke to their friendly helpful staff who encouraged me to increase my ... I recently moved accounts to the Abbey. They promised a seamless transfer, but failed to deliver. Numerous direct debits didn't transfer for months, my mortgage went unpaid, they refused to pay charges incurred as a result (although their advertising promises this). They misrepresented their account set up - transfers between Abbey accounts were ... Read the complete review

This summer, I graduated from university and began my first “proper” job. Having been brought up to have a savings habit (something that I had been unable to continue with during my student years), one of the first things I wanted to do with my new income was to get saving again and build up a little bit of financial security. Now, there are many ... Read the complete review

Abbey National? About as useful as a chocolate fireguard! The sitaution: I did some work for a German software vendor, and as such got some cash transferred. First transfer got through even though they made a cock up on the sort code (without my knowledge I'll have you know). Second transfer of over a grand and a half has just gone missing. I have ... I thought it was time I wrote about my bank account which is with Abbey National or Abbey as they are now known.
