The Abbey National is now the Abbey following an acquisition by a European multinational. I joined the Abbey National just before it became a PLC and enjoyed a windfall from share options issued then. I transferred due to dissatisfaction with another bank and found facilities for transfer very easy. Even in the 1990’s they took care of all my ... Read the complete review

I had an account with Abbey, but closed it last year as I was not using it enough. I have since opened a joint account with my partner. Staff in Abbey branches make you feel valued as a customer. Many other banks will ask you to make appointments to open accounts with them, my advice here is to just walk away, go and see Abbey. They ... Read the complete review

**Please note before reading this opinion that it is under the 'in general' category and is therefore solely about that their customer services, not any accounts or other financial products they offer. Also, if you think you've read this before, that is because it was lost when the system went down a couple of weeks ago** I ... Read the complete review

Free business banking with the Abbey - expect a second class service. It's a good job they don't charge. Accounts issued with an Electron card that cannot be used anywhere. Tried to get a normal switch card, after 4 weeks received a card with my name spelt incorrectly. They they have 'run out' of cards and cannot print more for ... Read the complete review

I have been a customer of the Abbey National for about five years now. Having moved to the west midlands area and settled into a house in the country, I thought it best to open a bank account in town. I have also an account with the lloyds but wanted an account to just save up in. When I went into the branch to open an account, I was ... Read the complete review

And its possibly the best bank I've come across. In that time there hasn't been any problems with the operation of my current account at all. They have flawlessly set up my direct debit mandates, my standing orders, and processed my bill payments without flinching. The money has left my accout with ease. I'm ... Read the complete review

Abbey National is the major high street presence o0nline bank, which offers its users range of saving accounts and services. Like Barclays and Halifax, the service is also available through other media rather than just the high street, users can log onto their site or telephone their customer service; however, unlike Barclays or Halifax, the Abbey ... Abbey National, the habit of a lifetime. How many of us change bank accounts regularly or look around for a better deal? Let's face it most people will shop around for the best mortgage deal before committing to one institution. How many of us are happy with our current bank or building society account? If we're not do we actually ... Read the complete review

Having been with the bank for nearly four years, have not got too much to complain about, they were so much better in terms of customer service when I joined them than Midland (now HSBC). On the whole the bank is fine. There are niggles though. 1, When I go into pay a bill I don't want to keep being reminded that I can do it ... Read the complete review

My husband and I have had a few bad experiences with Abbey National that put us off for life. If started off OK, we banked with them for about 14 years. We had a current account, savings accounts, TESSAs and a mortgage. We went to them for financial advice and trusted them. But after they changed into a bank, things went ... Read the complete review

I have been with Abbey National for over 15 years, and I have to say that they have been the best. I have tried other banks like Lloyds TSB, and Barclays but have always had problems with these. For example, Lloyds would allow you to draw on a cheque that hadn't cleared and then charge you daily for being overdrawn, and the cash machine took 3 ... Read the complete review

I have banked at Abbey National since I was very little. I will not mention the time they closed my bank account because it had less than £50 in it. When I go in a branch of Abbey National, I have to psyche myself up for world war 3. I go in to withdraw money, and I get abuse because of this. WHy? I do not know to this day. ... Having telephoned the nice people at the Abbey National telephone banking call center to confirm the date on which my monthly statement was produced I sat back, relaxed, lit my pipe (metaphorically speaking of course) and looked forward to receiving the aforementioned document. Well, for starters its a bank. A place you put in your money and hopefully achieve more than what you put in, in a way of interest. Abbey Nationals 1621 account is what I have and it gives you a debit card. This enables youngsters to get a feeling of what its like to have a plastic payment card. The interest is good, the young persons sales ... Read the complete review

Last year, I was due to go on holiday and went to my bank to pay in a cheque I had received from an insurance company. After a disastrous 10 year relationship with Lloyds (they denied all knowledge of an appointment I kept with an account manager who obvioulsy failed to take and keep notes of items agreed and cost me a fortune into the bargain) it was time to look for a new bank. Well many of you are shareholders in Abbey National, and a larger number are customers of Abbey National. Nearly a year ago, Abbey introduced a concept that would revolutionise the way we bank. It was the first type of bank in Europe and was largely regarded as a waster of money by critics. What am I talking about I hear you ask - The ... Read the complete review

My mother opened my first account at Abbey National more years ago than I care to remember - let's just admit it was over 30! I've seen them innovate new services to take business away from their competitors and grow. They were the first to give survey reports to mortgage applicants. The first to pay interest on current ...
