I used to use Abbey National's online banking very successfully. Now I can't easily. It frequently fails to allow me to log in or open pages.
I am a long-standing Abbey customer and they were my first online banking choice. The site worked pretty well. I'd have given it four stars. That is, until the very recent redesign. Amid non-loading pages, it took me three days to work out a way to log in to get at my money, which was bad news as bills needed to be paid urgently. (I managed it by converting one page to html source code and re-entering it).
In response to an email, their customer services department said they were aware of problems for Mac users. They were being investigated.
Now, a couple of weeks later, it has taken me all day to log in and again I need to move money urgently. OK. I got there in the end, but the site is much more tedious now.
Is it really any more secure than, say, egg or nationwide's sites which are far easier to get into and navigate?
I love online banking because it avoids the long queues in the branches and the unhelpful staff. Now I seem to be waiting even longer.
My advice: don't touch abbeynational.co.uk . The Abbey customer service ethic ? well known to anyone who has waited half a lunch hour to get to the counter, or tried unsuccessfully to pay a simple bank giro or tried to pay in two checks listed separately or just wanted some information ? seems to have well and truly taken over the website too.
