Abbey National’s web site is really good and easy to use if you want mortgage advice. For first time buyers, it takes you through all the different options available to you, offers a “calculator” which you can use to work out how much you can borrow, and can even give you an “agreement in principle” which will help when you are looking for a house, as estate agents are reluctant to deal with people who do not have a mortgage confirmed (useless if you just want to get a feel for the market as they think you are wasting their time – which, in essence, you probably are!).
