i firmly believe that there is a lot of bad press and hype regarding the security breaches on the Internet recently. Although there is fraud on the Internet, it is much less than can be found from more "traditional" transactions.

I have recently been using telebanking with Abbey National and have found the service to be extremely useful. I can do my banking when I want without the hassle of phoning one of those automated telephone lines with the usual "press 1 if ..... press 2 if .... " messages.

I am aware that there have been occassions where credit card and bank details have been hacked, but the bank and credit card companies should cover you for this type of fraud, and there is a greater risk from using your cards in a shop or over the phone than from usingthe Internet.

People are just a bit scared of using new technology, and this is not helped by the media whipping up a frenzy about possible security breaches.

I will continue to use the Internet for shopping and banking safe in the knowledge that although fraud takes place, I am at no more risk using the Internet than I am with other forms of banking and shopping.
