Advantages: Nothing, their offers are to just draw you in

Disadvantages: They'll grab money off you at any point

After reading a review on here I felt the need to also add my penny worth. A&L are dreadful. When I joined them they seemed great with a good amount of interest for a current account. However once I stopped using their services they charged me £5 a month for not putting enough money into the account every month. I know it was probably mentioned in the literature, but who reads that? And we all know that they bank on that (no pun intended). However I was unaware that I was being charged and after a few months, I was over drawn thanks to their charges and then they charged me £25 overdrawn fee. I only realised when they sent me a letter.

I paid the money and sent a letter back complaining and told them I wanted my account closed. I heard nothing. I sent another letter, I heard nothing. I rang up and some snotty little uncaring sh*t, calmly told me that the account had been closed months ago on the first letter I sent.

I got nothing to tell me it had been closed, I wasn't offered the rest of the money in the account. Admittedly it was probably only a few pounds and when I explained that I hadn't heard anything, the little git just went silent and side stepped the issue by saying, "well the account is closed now".

Basically they try and get you to join by giving out free fivers and having swish looking branches full of good looking young people, but in the end their just a bunch of sharks ready to get hold of even more of your money.

Avoid at all costs and if you're with them check the small print on everything.

Summary: Rotten bank, rotten customer care and a bunch of theives

Well you certainly should get your money back, even if it was only a few pounds! Other than that, I am not sure what exactly you think they did wrong, more and more banks are charging for account maintenance these days and they did tell you. If you had been paying it for months and then went overdrawn, I don't see how it can be entirely due to that fee.
