Advantages: Nothing - nada - none

Disadvantages: Lies and deceit from both the call centres and the branches. IT incompetence.

I told them to close my account in March and they told me they couldn't until they had applied the overdrawn charges to it even after I credited my account - the money was already there to clear it. I called again for a total of 5 months and each time they said it would be actioned. I called again on the 13th of August and was told these would be cleared and my account closed down and that I would receive confirmation, nothing arrived. More charges appeared on my account on the 24th of that month - this is entirely the fault of the lies that were relayed to me from the call centre staff. Two days ago in September they claimed I had not called them since March. I have called them again to close my account and they say they will do this. Once closed I will write my 3 complaints letters and will simply have to take them to both the FSO and court.

If this is done to so many customers then why are they not being investigated for Fraud?

I was going to move to them from HSBC but have found that HSBC have improved and are a delight to bank with - I'm staying put. Santander just lost all of my business forever - Abbey, Bradford and Bingley, Alliance and Leicester and Vodaphone (who I will leave at my contract end - a shame as they seem to at least be competent). I also hold shares and refuse to trade in such a poor group as Santander on principle.

Summary: Never ever Bank with this bunch of idiots
