Bank of Scotland

Newest Review: ... charges and wouldn't need to be paid back for 4 years. I was unsure of if studying with on HNC course would affect my eligiblity but was assure it would not. This was not the case as I soon found out 8 months later when I queried some charges on account in my branch. I was advised that the account was not set up as a student account as only someone studying an HND or degree would be eligible. I was not offered these interest charges back as I had 'not noticed soon enough' and was sent on my way with a £20 good will credit, which did not cover even half of the charges. I later went into the same branch with my confirmation letter ... more

I feel very saddned to have to be writing this review on the Bank of Scotland, especially one with hardly any positive points. Before I start, I would like to mention the excellent service I have experienced in the Edinburgh branch, the staff are attentive and very welcoming on every one of my visits. Now for the negative points. I opened an account with the Bank of Scotland branch in Falkirk in late 2005. Since then I have regretted this moment and wished I had choosen another bank to deposit my income. The setup process was simple and the advisor I spoke with was very helpful and friendly. I was applying for a student ...  Read the complete review

Most of the banks in the United Kingdom particularly have not had it easy especially for the past one year. Bank of Scotland is no exception and being part of an institution which has more or less contributed to the credit crunch, it is no wonder that they are not looked upon very favourably. I have been banking with Bank of Scotland for the past two years and I have experienced both good and bad services. I first opened an account with Bank of Scotland when I was in Aberdeen. This was itself a tedious and lengthy endeavour which finally ended when a staff sat down with me and looked into my case. She went through every detail of my application and made sure ...  Read the complete review

The Bank of Scotland has a long history, having originally been formed in 1695 and for many years had its imposing head office on the Mound in Edinburgh - a branch I used to love to visit on occasional trips to the city in my youth. Of course the credit crunch has seriously weakened the bank. It merged with Halifax in 2001, ostensibly to market Bank of Scotland's business product more easily in England, and to increase the mortgage market in Scotland. Sadly this has proved to be the undoing of both companies and now HBOS, as the merged company became known, has been taken over by the Lloyds banking group. The Bank of Scotland brand will remain separate ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bank of Scotland (a.k.a. Bank of S@#%!) (1118 words)

The Bank of Scotland (BoS) is one of the oldest banks in the United Kingdom, its beginnings being traceable back to the 17th century. The bank was created by an Act of the Scottish Parliament and was the first bank in Europe to issue banknotes, and still does to this day. In 2001 BoS merged with Halifax to create HBOS, one of the largest banks in the UK. I have had accounts with BoS for many years, including current accounts, savings, mortgages, loans and a credit card. Over recent years I have had problems with most of these accounts, however the hassle of finding a new bank and switching all the accounts to them has kept me using HBOS. However I ...  Read the complete review

You will get value for money from this review because technically I am writing about 2 Bank of Scotland products in this one review. First I will start with the good bits. This has been the only bank i've used. I've been banking with this bank for about 12 years and although when I first joined and I was putting hardly any money in, as being a typical teenager I spent my pocket money instead of saving it. After all that's what we do isn't it? Eventually I got myself an all singing, all dancing card. A Switch card with a £100 overdraft and a Cheque Book. Unfortunately being a bit of a stupid student who liked to spend I ended up getting a ...  Read the complete review
