Good family bank (Bank of Scotland)

Advantages: Internet banking, mostly friendly staff

Disadvantages: Head office are very slow

I have been with this bank for a year now. It has merged with the Halifax now so it is called HBOS. I just have a very standard account with them to pay money into for us getting married in a couple of weeks. As it is very basic we don't get any interest paid on it which I just found out today but I didn't really look in to it before now. It is a joint account and we both got a visa debit card with it which is useful for buying stuff over the internet. I have also been able to get internet banking which is very simple to use and appears to be pretty secure.

The branch staff are very friendly and will do what they can to help you. I have also opened accounts for my daughters in here. So far I haven't had any big problems, but one thing I was unhappy with is that any money you take in in loose change has to bagged up. I don't mind doing this but I think it is a bit ridiculous to expect it for young children, especially as they are given their own little bank all they want to do is empty it and take it in, they don't want my hands on their money. One woman did actually refuse to serve us because of this, I complained and was told that this was the way it was and it was staying that way, so basically I just had to put up with it! Not very good customer service from the head office then, I thought the customer was always right!

Summary: This is a good bank which I have not had any major problems with
