Advantages: Was a friend for life

I have been with the bank of Scotland for about 15 years and have always been treated well by them...when they had a 'Bank Manager' who knew me and my circumstances. I have been through many sticky times since being with them and each time, until now, they have treated me sympathetically.

Some time ago the manager became area manager and went to work in another district, I can no longer correspond with him.

Earlier this year I needed to take out a loan and more than £2000 was added as insurance to protect payments against 'sickness or loss of job etc.'

I have now found myself unemployed AND being signed sick. Guess what? I am not covered by insurance, in fact they will not even send me a form to apply for it because they said on the phone I don't qualify.

Although being on benefit now I could actually manage my account - direct debits etc - quite easily if my loan was being paid for the next few months, until I go to tribunal. But no, I find myself having to look around for a bank or building society that will give me an account just to pay my DDs.

Where, in the past, if in difficulty, I could go and speak to my manager, my case is now put to the debt department in Rosyth.

Sorry, I always believed this bank was a friend for life, I find life support has been duly switched off.

Just look out for the small print.
