Advantages: Local
Disadvantages: Lose documents, do not MATCH accounts elsewhere
Of all the banks I have used Barclays seems to have the fairest charging policy, but at the same time a large amount of incompetence... let me explain.
So, on the search for an alternative destination for my PayPal funds I went into my local branch to open an account. I was told that they guaranteed to 'match' any account I had, overdraft, cards, etc. I was so happy to hear this, so spent the time filling in forms for an account identical to my other bank. A few days later, nothing, a week later, nothing. I went into the branch and was informed my application had been turned down.
On asking what had happened to the 'guaranteed match', I was informed that it was not that sort of guarantee! Weird, as I thought the word only had one meaning. Anyway, I opted to a cashcard account, as this would still help me. When this was set-up I was asked if I wanted to upgrade the account. On explaining the situation they suggested getting a credit report. I did this, it showed one problem, so I took it into the branch. A few days later, nothing, a week later nothing... this was sounding familiar, so another trip down town.
They had LOST my credit report printout and I stupidly did not keep a copy. Silly me! So I left the branch annoyed. I could not even be bothered to follow it up. It is there loss, I will put my money elsewhere.
Tip of the day: Important documents... keep a copy!
