Advantages: 'Safe' bank, well known brand, reliable

Disadvantages: rates are not competitive, hard sell tactics

Ah Barclays, one of the biggest banks in the UK. There are branches in most town centres within the country and I suppose my local one is a typical example of how barclays operate. There are cash machines on the outside of the building as well as a couple on the inside. They have also introduced new machines quite recently which you can use to look at in depth statements, sort out payments, print out receipts etc.

The bank also has financial advisors available but I tend to stay clear of them as any time you go near one of them they try and flog you under the sun. Barclays are a good secure bank to have an account with but they do not necessarily always have the best rates when it comes to credit, interest rates on savings account etc.

The cashiers are generally helpful and I like the new 'query desk' where you can go and ask simple questions about your account without being given the hard sell or having to go to a cashier behind the glass windows.

Summary: A decent bank to use but not the best
