Barclays rule the financial world (Barclays Bank)

Advantages: Reducing interest rates, customer service and online functions.

Disadvantages: Maybe try to sell to you a little too much.

Having had no business banking dealings with Barlcays, I cannot possibly comment on that side of their offering, but I can comment on 9 years oh happy experiences with Barclays.

I first joined the bank in the year 2000 after becoming fed up with Halifax and I have to say, I have never had one single problem with Barclays since.

The fact that in almost every village near me there seems to be a branch is really handy as I live almost 8 miles out of the town centre. This is not the case with any other banks in my area.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The one criticism, and I bet this is the case with all banks, is that you just can't go in and do something simple like pay some money into your account without them trying to sell you something, particularly loans which in todays climate is a little more un-acceptable than in previous years. Like I say though, this goes on in all banks and they are just doing their job.

Getting an appointment to discuss further financing is always easy to do and never a chore. The options available are great too.

I have found that during the credit crunch, Barclays have taken the difficulties of homeowners into account and reduced their interest rate as the Bank of England have, every single time without delay. The has almost halved my mortgage in 4 months and is much appreciated.

The online banking facilities with Barclays would, in my opinion, take some beating. Everything is just so clear and easy to use. The downtime is non-existant and you even get updates with pre-approved offers like loans and overdrafts should you need them. These would be applied immediately.

I'll never leave Barclays.

Summary: I encourage everyone to use Barclays if you want a good, honest and fair bank.
