Advantages: Good service in branch

Disadvantages: Bad service over phone

I have been a customer of Barclays Bank for about 5 years now, and although I can say that on some occasions the service has been excellent, this high standard is not consistent.

Whenever I visit my local branch the service is fantastic, the staff are always really friendly and go out of their way to help. However whenever I have phoned the customer services I find myself getting frustrated as I very rarely get the answer to my questions, it seems there is a vast difference in customer service training between branch and call centres.

Recently, while I was away travelling I was left without access to funds after Barclays fraud department put a stop on my card. Although I understand this is an important part of the fight against crime, I had already phoned to advise them of my various locations. This was very annoying.

Barclays do have a fantastic online banking system, which is very easy to use and has a lot of procedures in place to ensure safety when using the site.

My knowledge of interest rates is very limited, but when I had built up quite a sum I realised my reward for banking with them was very low, I was advised by a cashier to see a personal banker, who transferred my funds to a better account with a better rate of interest. It taught me that they cant help you make or save money if you don't give them the chance to.
