Advantages: good customer service skills

Disadvantages: I know of people who have had difficulties with Barclays

I have held an account with Barclays for several years, and although in that time the have proved to be fairly incompetent on the occasion, I was without a bankcard for two months because of their failure to send one out. I have to say that on the whole I am quite impressed with Barclays.
As a student Barclays can offer you an overdraft of up to £1,800 completely interest free, of course after you graduate you have to start paying this back but it is at an affordable rate. They can also offer a graduate loan of up to £10 000, with competitive interest rates.
As I live in Scotland now there are very few Barclays up here, as a result I tend to contact Barclays over the phone in I need to make balance transfers or set up a standing order. There customer service is brilliant, staff are very friendly, quick and efficient, which makes my life much easier.
I would say that Barclays are a good bank to be with, however I do feel that in the end it comes down to personal experience, a few years back, a friend of mine had an account with Barclays, within a few month of her graduating they demanded that she pay back her overdraft immediately. She changed her bank to Lloyd who she never had a problem with, I on the other hand hate Lloyds bank with a passion due to a long list of incompetence and unhelpful staff.
I have come to the decision that it doesn't matter how many people recommend a bank that in the end it comes down to personal experiences.
