Premium Review Barclays Bank: Go with someone else (747 words)

For many years I was a customer of Barclays and it has been a steady downwards slope with them. I first signed up with them when I went to university. I was originally with HSBC but they were being funny about changing my account to a student account so I went to Barclays and they were no hassle. They gave me a decent overdraft and a ...  Read the complete review

A colleague of mine who so far has married 3 times (and divorced twice) told me that it has been easier to separate from his previous partners than his current bank. This is a joke, although in his case it is true, but probably it is also a fact of life. I set up my first bank account in Uk with Barclays and I have been faithful to them ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Barclays Bank
by B Eastoe - written on 20/01/08

A happy Woolwich customer for 17 years until Barclays gobbled them up. Worse branches, worse banking products, worse on-line banking system. It wouldn't be so bad if they had moved our accounts competently, only they failed to transer my wife and my Credit Cards direct debits (all the others OK) which meant we missed payments and paid interest. Now the PINsentry introduction has been another disaster. I can't get to my money to pay bills, check statements, etc.
I have a lot of cash with Barclays and I'm off to First Direct. This may sound terribly racist (I'm not) but it is a fact, at least I can understand the call centre staff.
I would give Barclays a ZERO rating but I have to give them something, apparently.

I have been a barclays customer since 2000 and until recently had no cause for complaint -- until i had to speak to someone on the telephone, I was passed from pillow to post and put on hold for at least 15 mins each time, if i ever got passed on at all , A TOTAL OF 3 HOURS PLUS IN ALL. The problem came when a direct debit needed for my ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Barclays Bank - improvements needed (488 words)
by - written on 25/05/07 (Very useful, 218 readings)

I have used Barclays Bank for as long as I can remember. I opened with a typical savings account and that is fine for me. I don't fuss about extra little bits here and there - just needed somewhere to put my money! The staff are usually helpful enough in the branches (Leicester in particular), but not necessarily friendly. On the phone staff ...  Read the complete review

I Bank with Barclays, have done so for a long time. I was disgusted when I found out what BBC 1 programme Whistleblower had discovered in the last nine months. Premium Review Barclays Bank: I like doing business with Barclays (194 words)
by - written on 07/02/07 (Somewhat useful, 144 readings)

Barclays Bank is the third biggest bank in UK. It has traded since 16660's. History of banking is one of mergers. Barclays has merged with over 25 banks in the last 100 years. I don't how many people bank with Barclays. I can tell you how many people work for Barclays: 113 000. Enough of history. I've banked with Barclays far too many ...  Read the complete review

I banked with Barclays for years but have recently left to join Natwest. This was for various reasons: poor customer service, poor products and bad interest rates. The main issue, however, was the sheer waiting time to actually do anything in the branch. Whether it was paying money in, seeing a personal banker or something very simple ...  Read the complete review

I have banked with Barclays since I became old enough to have a bank account. I often read press articles that “tell” us that the great British public suffers from terrible inertia when it comes to changing their bank account, and that over 75% of us never do. I don’t suffer from inertia. I like my bank, and have absolutely no reason to change ...  Read the complete review

Barclays Bank, a nobel established financial institution or a corrupt insensitive corporation. Ok, I have a biased opinion of Barclays. My brother works at Barclays. I have been with them for two years, and I have had no problems, they are very helpful, when I am in the bank and on the phone. My only moan is that I keep on getting turned down for a credit card. Even with my brother working with, this doesnt help. Their ...  Read the complete review

This review relates only to the CURRENT ACCOUNTS provided by Barclays, especially the Additions Plus account. There is no special category for these and general reviews seem to concentrate on that aspect of banking service. I have been with Barclays for around twenty years. In this time I have tolerated without complaint the downgrading of my branch to a sub-branch, with subsequent reduction in staff and increase in queuing time, the lack of personal service, the lottery of making phone calls to some central number and the general lack of knowing just who is ...  Read the complete review

Around two years ago I graduated from University and decided to set up my own marketing company. Barclays have contrived to make my life a living nightmare. I have been with them for 15 years now, and the treatment I have had from them recently has been nothing short of demeaning, disrespectful, distrusting, amounting to pure rudeness at times. After finishing University, my overdraft limit was an incredible £2600. After ...  Read the complete review

I popped into my local Barclays in my lunch hour and waited 50 minutes to see the one personal banker, (even though there were 3 desks) quite sad I know but it was really important. The Personal Banker couldn't help me so I asked for the Manager, only to be told she was on holiday and they don't have any spare cover managers. This is now ...  Read the complete review
