Advantages: Ease Of Use, Reliability, Security
Disadvantages: Can Be Slow Be Slow At Times
A lot of people have sheered away from the new aspect of banking, which all major competitors have introduced. This is taking banking into cyberspace. No more posting checks. Initially I was hesitant at crossing this final frontier but as soon as I did I realised that a whole new world opened up to me and the power of Barclays to render my account as I wished was in my hands. Online banking is just that, power at the click of a finger and with Barclay's security promises who can fail to join the craze, which has enveloped the entire nation. Setting up an account via the Internet is very simple; they ask a few simple questions concerning your locations and personal data and then allow you to open an individual account of your choice from the entire Barclays range and also an online account. You'll receive a five-digit pin number and 2 other characters to ensure the security of your account. Barclays have ensured that the transferring of virus's and other Internet problems is reduced to an absolute minimum. Not only do they offer and online Norton Antivirus Checker with RSA 1024bit encryption, but also they have operators who perform random checks for online viruses. The amount of services on the website is phenomenal, not only do you have the ability to do everything you normally would be able to do such as viewing statements, maintaining standing orders and searching for transactions but also you have the ability to transfer data from their website about your account onto your hard-drive for recording on Excel or whatever software you own. There is also online support and an operator who will respond to requests about further information. The navigation on the site is excellent. The colour scheme is of course kept to the notorious blue and white uniform however you won't receive many if any pop up windows and the drop down menus mean that the site is well organised and free from loose links.
In conclusion the Barclays site is a brilliant addition to the main body of the Barclays bank; not only does it allow ease of use and banking but it brings organisation and reliability of banking into the twentieth century.

- 29/06/02 okey dokey, but how long before their service goes t*ts up and you cannot access your money, as happened recently for a day or two with Cahoot?
We use an on-line banking account, but with the proviso that the only payment out allowed is via Direct debits or payments directly into our High Street account. That ensures security, and all our 'eggs' are not in one basket. |
