Advantages: Right now, none

Disadvantages: Internet changes made by a/c holder not accessed same day, hence charges of £35 for their mistakes.

I have been with them 11 years and have gone thru hell with them. Charges of £35 for being £1 overdrawn, the bank itself ensuring that I went overdrawn by adding these charges to my a/c just before payday. I do most of my banking over the internet but I have now stopped as I discovered when, I had to change the date of payment on my standing orders, as money I was due had not come into my a/c. I was charged £35 twice because my updates done over the net were not accessed until the following day. They informed me that this was not their problem and that any changes made via the internet were not immediate. Yet they have been in the past when I changed payment dates!!! Would love to leave but not in a position to open a/c with another bank.

Summary: They profit from each and every current a/c customer who goes overdrawn by £1

Yeah - I have to mirror what Helen said. I have been with Coop bank since 1991. I have an automatic overdraft of £200. I have only ever gone overdrawn once by about £30. for 2 days and I never got charged a penny. I also brought a new car and borrowed £5000 from them for 12 months. Total interest charge was just £250...which at the time was very good, and easy to arrange.!! The only problem Ive had is getting money into the account. Wages go in ok...payments from places like paypal fail...

I thought there was a change in legislation where you can only be charged once and in the case of going overdrawn then the amount had to be quite a bit greater than £1 before they make the £35 charge (which is also supposed to be changed to something like £10).

this looks like your own fault. arrange an overdraft first even if you don't intend using it, and banks DO give notice of when charges will be taken out...
