Advantages: Ethical investments, 24hour telephone banking

Disadvantages: Not many local branches

I chose to bank with the Co-op as they only invest in ethical companies so you know your money is not going towards dodgy companies. As a rule I find most banks far more interested in making money from their customers rather than helping them. However at least when the co-op charges me for my overdraft I know that my money is not going towards animal testing or third world debt.
Other than the ethical issue I find the bank very easy to deal with as they have an excellent 24 hour telephone banking service so whenever I have a question I just phone up and always get to speak to a real person within about 5 minutes, which I find very useful. As there are no branches near where I live I pay my cheques in at the post office which is very handy or just stick them in the post.
I had the account throughout my student days and they really did me proud! Not only did I have a free overdraft facillity which increased each year to £1850 in my final year, but once I left I was then allowed to keep it for free for another year, which was a huge relief as it meant I didn't suddenly get saddled with huge fees.
Overall I would highly recommend the Co-op bank and I will certainly be banking with them for life.

When I decided to plump for an online account I chose Smile, the Co-ops internet arm, for all the reasons you describe!
