Advantages: fast efficient switching, good internet banking and friendly call centres
Disadvantages: not sure how you pay cash in
I recently moved my current account to First Direct and so far have had an excellent experience. I would thoroughly recomend this bank if you are thinking if switching.
The move itself was very quick and straightforward with all my direct debits and standing orders moving without a hitch. They even to the time to call me after a month and discussed those accounts which had not updated, all of which were either inactive or due to an error with my supplier. They gave me a form to send to my employer payroll department and again this work liked a dream. While I cannot say how this would compare with other banks, as I was with my last one for over 10 years, I would certainly praise the ease and convenience.
They offered a cash bonus of £100 to switch and that was paid very quickly.
I am an internet banking user and found the service very quick and straightforward to set up. More so than other banks as I didn't have to wait for loads of paperwork to be posted out as they set me up over the phone. Since then I have mostly used the internet banking service which is user friendly and updates quickly for faster payments.
I have had to use the telephone banking service and I found the staff to be very helpful. The nature of my call did leave the opportunity for some upselling but it was not pushy and did not feel like it was being done from a script.
The regular saver account that they offer has an excellent rate and is quite flexible. I have changed my amount twice now simply by changing the standing order amount with no problems at all.
Summary: Great experience so far with an easy seamless switch
