Advantages: Nice telephone people
Disadvantages: Visa department staff
Overall, first direct bank is above average but it is let down by its Visa department employees who seem to think it is their right to make life difficult for you. I remarked to one of their bank operators: "The rest of you are very nice but your Visa department staff seem very 'up' themselves" Silence. She said:"Have you ever worked here?" I said no. She said:"..... because that's exactly what we say." I think that about says it all. Don't ask them where you can locate one of their banks in a foreign country. They can't tell you - despite being a worldwide bank. If you telephone to arrange some cash to be sent to a bank and agree a time and date.... it doesn't arrive and the bank have never heard of you. Allow around 25 minutes for the matter to be sorted out. It's a shame - it used to be such a good bank when it started, now it provides practically no services except to relieve you of your unwanted cash...... And by the way. Don't expect the bank to allow you to 'spend' any of the points you accrue by using their credit cards. Apparently the bank can stop the scheme without telling you by advertising it in national newspapers. Sadly I'd been saving for ages. I'm now changing banks because, on this principle, the bank could relieve me of the interest in my savings accounts by telling about it in the Daily Mirror's small print. NEWS PS Bank have now put £10 in my account as a 'Sorry' - so at least they listened.
