Newest Review: ... my card and get a Visa Debit card, this is where I have some queries with Halifax. I went into the branch, armed with ID and asked if I could simply switch over from an electron card to a debit card. I also wanted to switch over from a student account, although I am still a student going back to university, I feel that I wasnt really benefiting from any of their student offers so I thought I may as well switch my account now, as next year I wont be a student anymore! The woman took me through to another room where she took all of my details, she was a very polite nice woman who was helpful. It then came to the subject of switching ... more

Honestly, I have mixed reviews on this bank. I took an account with Halifax many years ago (5 to be precise), and the main reason for this was becuase there was a halifax bank in my local village which made it great access. But of course this closed down not long after I opened the account typical! Anyway as I was a student, I had a student account and I had a Visa Electron card, I had no problems at all with this card or the bank and never had to go in. The bank was still in a local town which meant it was just a bus ride away. My card lasted me throughout my time at both college and university, and I still never encountered any problems. But ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review I actually did get " A LITTLE XTRA" (527 words)

Let me start this review by mentioning that I really get annoyed and irritated by banks and building society's. Last week I popped into my local Halifax branch to make a counter transaction. The lady behind the counter asked me if I was aware of the changes that are going to be happening to my account. I wasn't aware that any changes were being made starting from 1st December despite the claim that a letter had apparently been sent to me. It unravels that the current account I have will be changing and that Halifax will be charging me £1 per day for every day the account holder is overdrawn. She advised me to see an account advisor to review my ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Halifax: A good but not great bank (275 words)

I have been with this banking group sunce a child. Although i don't think they are the best, i very much doubt they are the worst. Like all banks, you have a choice of current accounts, savings accounts, and ISA accounts for saving. The interest rates on these again are not the best but there are worse. At the time of writing this review they have a very competitive current account where a deposit of £1000 or more in a month will earn you £5. This is much better than the rubbish 0.1% interest accounts that are going about. Savings accounts and ISA's are best if dealing over the internet or phone as in branch the interest rates are poor like in all ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Good service, but...! (175 words)

I opened a pretty good account with Halifax, pre-Credit Crunch, and was generally quite pleased with the account. I liked the fact my statements came every 3 months rather than 30 days, seeing as I usually am aware of the activity in my bank accounts. At the time it was a high interest account, which means that so long as I paid in a certain amount each month (I would just transfer it from other banks and back again), I would get a pretty good amount earnt on my money each month. This wasn't massive, but excellent for current accounts. The rate did change after a year, however, and whilst still competitive, was nowhere near what it was previously. Premium Review Halifax (301 words)

Halifax is one of the largest banks in UK. It used to be one of the biggest building societies which "demutualized" in the ninenties. I have held an account with them since 1993. I currently have 2 saving account, one joint with my brother, an Isa, their credit card, and various types of "high saving accounts". I used to find good rates until when the yields went down with the financial crisis and I kept my money there in order to diversify the risk of a bank defaulting and taking all my savings with them. These days I still visit on a regular basis my local branch. I have few sources of income and some time ...  Read the complete review
