Halifax - Love you when you got it, hate you when you don't

Advantages: Very helpful when you have loads of money
Disadvantages: Very understanding when you don't (NOT!)
I have had an account with halifax since they merged with the leeds building society, having had an account with them since I was 11. They were always very nice and helpful, and their online banking system was really easy to use. My husband and I had 3 accounts with them and even our mortgage at one point. Their niceness came to an end when we hit financial difficulties. My husband was made redundant twice within 3 years, and as a result we ran up some credit card debts. We struggled to make ends meet and to keep up payments on our debts, and fell into the age old trap of taking out a loan to consolodate the debt. The halifax were very helpfull in setting up the loan and paid the monewy into our account very quickly. We continued to struggle on and found that we were falling foul of ever increasing bank charges each month. At one point we ended up paying £95 bank charges for being 7p overdrawn on our bank account (there was 7p short for a dd to go out, so they charged us a bounced dd fee, which put us over our overdraft limit, which cost us an unauthorised overdraft fee and interest!). We became increasingly desperate as they refused to help or even listen to our problems or help us find a solution. In the end we went to CCCS (Consumer Credit Councelling Service) recommended by Citizens Advise and set up a debt management plan to pay off our debts and keep our heads above water. Having been informed of the plan by us and CCCS the Halifax sent us dozens of threat letters and even tried to get a bailif to collect the full debt from us. CCCS dealt with all of this for us and had it not been for them my stress levels at this point could have become uncontrollable. A year down the line, having had monthly phone calls from the halifax (opening line is always " Hello I am calling from the Halifax about your debt and want to know how much you can pay off today" and no I am not kidding) we have now received a letter from Albion Collections asking us to call them URGENTLY about our debt with their clients (the Halifax).
The adverts say Who gives you extra......the answer is of course the Halifax...... extra hastle that is.
Summary: Don't even go there!
