Advantages: they're are situated in most high streets

Disadvantages: No other bank has charges like these from what i found

I have banked with Halifax since leaving school 6 years ago and recently made the final decision to change to another bank. I am appalled with the charging system they have in place. I have experienced unfair charges on two occasions. The deciding factor was that I was charged due to going over my small overdraft by 0.95p but that was not what infuriated me oh no, it was that they had sent out an immediate email the same day, not giving me any time at all to put this pence into the account, detailing that I would be charged a initial charge for going over of £35 then at the end of the month a £28 charge for an unauthorised overdraft!

Of course I went into the bank and demanded they take away these charges, to which they did as they're allowed to give you a reversal of charges as a 'good will gesture' once annually.

Summary: Do not bank with Halifax

I have found them pretty good in all other areas and when i requested reimbursement for my charges in Oct on the grounds of Financial Hardship they paid it back within 2 weeks. HOWEVER I always thought you weren't officially overdrawn til close of business on that day???

I had exactly the same thing with Halifax, they charged me £39 because they had to bounce a direct debit which would have put me £2 overdrawn. So by charging me, I was far more overdrawn! It was the first time it had happened too and they wouldn't give it back as a goodwill gesture and won't do anything till the court case is settled.
