Advantages: They were helpful in setting up accounts
Disadvantages: Stopping my card
Halifax is the bank whch I have been with since I was 16 (im now 21) and for the first few years I was happy with them.
Now however they seem to be making mistake after mistake and I will soon be planning on changing banks!
Firstly (and I know most banks do this) but the insufficent fund charges are ridiculous. 9 times out of 10 there is enough money in my bank however once or twice in the past 3 years I have been caught out by my direct debits coming out slighter earlier then anticipated due tp bank holidays etc. My account on both of these times was only over drawn by a few pounds, however halifax felt the need to charge me £35 on both accounts for these. This seemed slightly unfair!
Secondly I have recently come back from a trip from New York and took both my Halifax account cards with me, as my boyfriend would be using one and I the other. On the last day of being in New York, I found my card would not work and wouldnt let me draw cash out! You may be thinking well at least it was the last day but the money I was getting out was for the taxi to the airport and I had no other cash on me! My boyfriend then tried his card which was working however he only had a small amount left. So I ring my bank from my mobile and they tell me they've stopped it, as they thought someone may have stole it, fair enough I thought but I asked them to take it off and let me draw money out, I was then given another number to rinf to do that! So I rang them, after 10 minutes of choosing options finally I actuly spoke to someone, who told me they couldnt do anything about it, and it was take at least 24 hours! Luckily I had credit cards on me so I had to draw the extra cash out. However having to ring through a varity of numbers only to be told I could not get the stop taken off cost me my interest on my credit card plus a £65 phone bill as I rang them from New York!
What makes the above even more funnier is that when my card actuly did get stolen they never bothered putting a stop on it, and when I informed them £200 was taken from my account it took months and months of hassle to get them to give my money back to me!
My advise unless you want monkeys managing your accounts dont go with Halifax!
Summary: not worth being with

- 29/01/09 I've had problems with them in the past with credit card penalties, the wording on their paper statement is different from internet statement and is so ambiguous. I called to complain a half dozen times about penalty charges and they told me it happens all the time because of misunderstandings brought about by this but there's nothing I can do about it....so I cleared all my accounts. Not getting my money :) |
